Enzyme confusion (Sorry a bit long)

I started using enzymes on my daughter 2 weeks ago on and off b/c of

a reaction and I don't know what to do next. Let me share a little

background. Hope is 20 months old and was born some rare medical

conditions. She was born with only 3 chambers in her heart

(Hypoplastic Right Heart -not the more common Hypoplastic Left

Heart), her heart is on her right side not left(called

Dextracardia), a good portion of her internal organs are on the

opposite side of the body or not there at all) Hope has 2 right

lobed lungs, a midline liver, no spleen (Asplenia) and had

malroatated bowel or intestines that she did have surgery to cut the

Ladds band so they wouldn't twist on themselves and create a

volvulus. She has had 3 open heart surgeries with more on the way.

She had a g-tube placed over a year ago and is slowly learning how

to eat. During one of her heart surgeries they knicked the lympatic

system and her body drained Chyle into her chest cavity and she was

placed on a special fat free diet of Portagen for 8 weeks. From

this point on, she has vomitted with only a few days in between of

keeping her food down before the cycle starts over.

Hope has been failure to thrive and we started a blenderized diet in

January. We've hit some bumps along the way but think for the most

part we have figured out she isn't allergic (yet the vomitting

continues) to anything. We did trials where we took out dairy,

wheat etc and she still ended up vomitting after her system got use

to the change.

Hope is on daily meds for her heart; lasix & spiralactatone

(duiretics); and Zantac for reflux, and Amoxicillian b/c she has no

spleen to help filter out viruses etc. I was hoping she wouldn't

need this once I got comfortable with the enzymes because I feel

this daily 2 doses is in continual battle with her gut. Both

enzymes and good bacteria. She also gets a daily dose of

probiotics.

So here is my confusion. I started with Enzymedica Digest, and had

3 vomit free days but she started to get a terrible diaper rash like

it was burning her skin. So I stopped and it got better. Vomitting

did come back so it wasn't a " cure " but we didn't think it would

be. In the meantime, we had noticed that she seemed to have cold

like symptoms with drainage down her throat and it seemed to lead to

the vomiting. So after the diaper rash went away, I had researched

the Mucostop by Enzymedica and thought I'd give that a try. Someone

also thought there was too much Protease in the Digest and that was

why she was getting the diaper rash. Mucostop had a bit less but

not a HUGE difference in Protease. Well the diaper rash is back!!

I then read about yeast and yeast die off. I started to wonder if

her problem was yeast related and the diaper rash was just a

temporary symptom of yeast die off but I HAVE NO CLUE!! Her stools

are weird- chunks with a lot of liquid but not diahrea! Obviously, I

can't tell her to grin and bear it for two -four weeks as it is

painful! Just in case this is important, I also wanted to tell you

that when she does vomit (with or without enzymes) its it mostly 2-3

hours after eating and it ends up looking mucosy. I did experiment

with putting in more milk b/c grandma swore she wasn't getting

enough milk and when I did that the vomit would have cottage cheese

chunks with it after 2-3 hours she " ate. "

Another symptom that the peditrician says is normal in people and to

just keep applying a good lotion to, is that she has pimply red

bumps on her leg that come and go in intensity. I was wondering if

that was a symptom of yeast issues.

So if it is yeast...how do you go about treating it without causing

such horrible diaper rash? Poor thing also broke her leg last

Friday and she had just learned how to walk!! She's pretty misrable

I read and read the web sites from Houston, Enzymedica, etc and

because she can't really talk I'm left with just guessing from

observations what she " has " and what to do with it.

I also want to get rid of the zantac but was told it helps protect

the esphogus since she vomits so much. Overall, a lot of the

enzymes combos really seem to focus on the Protease for protein but

I really don't think that is the biggest factor in hers or mine for

that matter (at least digestively and not therapeuticly)

Thank you all in advance and I appreicate any and all input!
