Guest guest
Try using Himalayan Pink Salt instead of regular salt. This definately helped us with my son's biting his nails and putting his hands and fingers in his mouth. It is a mineral deficiency and this helps! From: yvonneweaver@... I don't know if it is a lack of vitamins or minerals. PICA came to mind, too! Any suggestions? I don't feel like making a expensive phone call in to the DAN doctor just for this question alone. _________________________________________________________________ Your E-mail and More On-the-Go. Guest guest
I think it's sensory/stim related. ________________________________ From: Rotondi <stephanie.rotondi@...> Sent: Tue, February 16, 2010 11:50:56 AM Subject: RE: Dana, anyone? Guest guest
For us this is yeast kicked up by viruses -- it's been tough this winter. It is also mineral deficiency for us especially zinc. Increase probiotics or add a new one to your routine at different times of day, rotate any antifungal treatments your doing or add something like caprylic or garlic to give it a boost and consider adding zinc or a multimineral such as the salt mentioned by another post. We're giving more probiotics mid-day after school. > > Ahhh, my son just started to put everything in his mouth lately. It has to be more than sensory input. Guest guest
> Ahhh, my son just started to put everything in his mouth lately. Generally caused by yeast overgrowth or zinc deficiency. >>It has to be more than sensory input. At my house, most sensory issues were caused by yeast overgrowth. Guest guest
I am right there with you on a kid that likes to mouth things. Try gum like hubba bubba . Gum is not great but compared to say eatting plants,or plastic items etc. Also it cuts down on some of the nervous stimming and looks normal. According to my daughters teacher ,my daughter actually focuses better and talks more when she has gum. Give something hard to chew to really get stress relief --not stick gum which is easy to bite down on. Hubba Bubba or the old fashioned original bubble gum . Maybe even let it be stale (good and hard). I like gum a lot better than these chewy toys the OT likes to give out (looks more normal ) The cause of putting stuff in mouth according to my neurologist and gastroentologist is stomach pain or icky sulfer taste up from throat / nausea feeling. I myself ate my way through four nausea pregnancies. Really consider stomach issues! Does your kid get Beer belly or the starving baby look (bloated belly skinny everywhere else) ?  From: erinsullivan65 <erinsullivan65@...> Subject: Re: Dana, anyone? Everything goes in the mouth. Guest guest
I have asked about this many times, WE call my daughter watermelon belly, she has these little skinny legs and big bloated belly. She is on GF/CF/EF, takes houston enzymes TRIENZA, and multiple yeast killers. But still no matter what she eats, she has this huge bloated belly. She does not put all the stuff in her mouth as you mention, but she definately has gut issues, and just cannot seem to get rid of the bloated belly look. She takes gymnastics and they keep telling her not to stick out her belly, and it is a balancing issue with hand stands and on the bars since it gives her a sway back, which I totally understand. But she Can't " suck " it in as they state. Any suggestions what else to do. I don't understand the whole Mito cocktail I keep reading about. What is that for? and how do you get it in a kid that won't swallow capsules... JEn mom to 6 yr old, PDD, ketotic hypoglycemia, Re: Dana, anyone? Everything goes in the mouth. At my house, this meant yeast usually, altho a few times it meant intolerance [usually supplements, sometimes foods]. >>I don't understand the whole > Mito cocktail I keep reading about. What is that for? My son had mitochondrial dysfunction http://www.danasview.net/mar05.htm >>and how do you get > it in a kid that won't swallow capsules... Before my kids swallowed capsules, I mixed things into peanut butter and honey. I taught them how to swallow capsules http://www.danasview.net/capsules.htm Dana
Guest guest
DeFelice, in her book, suggests sometimes a different brand of enzymes might work better. For me, I became sensitized to Houston lab enzymes but don't do so to Enzymedica -- finding GlutenEase and Digest Gold without probiotics work (but there are definite adjustment reactions due to yeast/bacterial die off, so slow increase was best). Guest guest
she was on Digest gold before the TRienza, and she was so hyper on that , and once we took her off that and put her on the Trienza, big change in hyperactivity, but big belly still remains. Guest guest
also, how are you getting the yeast die off with Digest gold and glutenese? that's a new one I never heard before. Guest guest
When I began glutenease, I became sensitive to yeast and foods that cross react with yeast on the day after increasing the dosage (I test things sublingually -under the tongue -- and if I'm sensitive my pulse increases a lot). This increased sensitivity has always happened to me when anything kills yeast. And then I read that proteases (which glutenease has a lot of) can kill yeast and bacteria. _http://www.enzymestuff.com/rtdieoff.htm_ (http://www.enzymestuff.com/rtdieoff.htm) I had to increase the enzymes quite slowly, especially at first, and put up with the die off reactions. I also read that a study recently found that a sequence of amino acids on the surface of Candida are identical to a sequence in gluten. So, if glutenease breaks down gluten it also may target the yeast. So, this fit together with what I had observed and what it says at the above link. I wonder if the hyperness experienced on Digest Gold was due to a die off (it also has a lot of proteases)? I also wonder if it was Digest Gold with probiotics? I am sensitive to all probiotics (or at least I was before I got to the full dosage of GlutenEase. Joyce
