Guest guest
Hi Margaret, I find that l-carnitine makes a definite difference. I usually take anywhere from 1,000-2,000mgs a day, and if I forget for a couple of days, I can really notice the difference. It helps me walk further...to stand up longer, without getting that lactic-acid burning in my feet and lower legs. Best regards, Dan > > Does anyone supplement with Carnitine? Guest guest
Dan, you don't feel overstimulated on this dose? I can only tolerate 500mg 3x/week and if I take more I feel this irritating energy and have trouble sleeping at night. I live in a highrise and after my power walks I like to climb the stairs to my apartment, I don't feel out of breath when I reach the top since taking l acetyl carnitine combined with ALA. Seems to help with stamina a bit. Nat > > I find that l-carnitine makes a definite difference. Guest guest
Thanks Dan, I have been taking 1,000mg a day but I forgot WHY I was taking it so I almost started to slack off... Ya know how it gets SO confusing when you've got so many supplements to take all the time. now I won't...so Thanx From: Dan B <kdrbrill@...> Subject: Re: Carnitine Date: Sunday, November 22, 2009, 4:46 PM Hi Margaret, I find that l-carnitine makes a definite difference. Guest guest
Definitely. But the l-carnitine helps indirectly reduce that. Not eliminate it, but reduce it, because it allows me to get to the store and back, to do minor errands -- compared to if I stop taking it, then not only is walking more difficult, but the PEM/and the related pain/cramping/muscle twitching are all reduced. There are many studies on Pubmed on carnitine and circulation, walking distance, etc. Here's one that says a different form works even better than 'regular' l-carnitine: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1555624 Hope that helps. d. > > Hi Dan > > Do you get Post Exertional Malaise when you do more ? > > Steve
Guest guest
This is a mainstay in my arsenal of must haves!!!!! I take acetyl l carnitine. Without it the lactic acid builds up in my brain and I get brain fog. With it at a dose of around 1500 mgs, my brain works well and no brain fog. There is a noticeable difference, for me. I wouldn't be without it. In Dr. Sinatra's " Metabolic Cardioogy " , he discusses how it takes lactic acid out of the brain. It is also good for removing excess fluid from the extremeties. I went without it for awhile and I knew what brain fog meant. I coudn't make decisions, couldn't think, my brain just wouldn't work. With it, I am sharp and my brain works well. ( Anyways I think so and can see such a difference ) Kathi > > Does anyone supplement with Carnitine? Guest guest
Please reseearch taking carnitine fully. I was going to take L carnitine and bought some, but felt worse for having it. When I googled, I found that it antogonises thyroid hormone. I didnt keep the links as I have so many, and once I know I wont take something and why, I bin the link. As always with googling you get both sides to consider and can then make your own decision. For me its a deinite no no, as is soy. carole __________ Information from ESET Smart Security, version of virus signature database 4684 (20091213) __________ The message was checked by ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com
Guest guest
I take 2,000mg L-Carnitine per day as I read online (a statement from a biochemical researcher). I feel great. I do keep it 4 hours or more away from my morning thyroid dose, however. Cherwyn
Guest guest
Hi Carole, L carnitine is a no no also for me – I have kidney issues and it is puts quite a load on the kidneys to clear it. I didn’t know about it compromising thyroid meds so thanks for that. Regards Mandy
