Guest guest
Would it be better to try only one new ingredient at a time? From: Denice <dkdirks@...> Subject: nervous mom - son having planned infraction at school right now Date: Monday, March 23, 2009, 3:28 PM He is having " bird's nests. " They consist of chocolate frosting, vanilla frosting, chow mein noodles, and jelly beans Full of corn syrup & artifical colors he has not had in over 3 years! And wheat, that he has been off off for a year. Yikes. The school nurse gave him two tri-enza then will give him his normal one trienza two hours later before lunch. I also gave him AFP, ZyCarb & No-fenol at breakfast. We have planning to do this for some time and I finally felt the time was right. He has tolerated corn starch and other corn derivates the past few weeks and some raw cow's milk cheese recently. Praying for success. No plans to remove him from GFCFCornFree diet right away, but hoping for planned infractions for school activities and birthdays. I will update later.... denice with Jarrett, severe SPD, age 6 in kindi...
Guest guest
My son never ate the snack! He had a mini meltdown and was taken out of class. Two issues seemed in play...one, he told me he was afraid to try it cause it might make him hyper (he never expressed it when we discussed it and had not seemed afraid as I challanged in other foods) and two, he said his teacher gave him a girl plate (DW, Arthur's sister, rather than Arthur or the dog that he gets when he has those plates at home). Rather than use his words, he threw/pushed the plate on the ground and melted down. So, we will be working on the fear factor and trying infractions when he is with me. Next week is Spring Break so that will be a good time to try. Denice ps..someone asked about trying one food at a time, we have been doing that. But when this activity at school came up we decided to let him try so he could participate. Our goal right now is not to elimate the diet but allow for infractions for celebrations and school activities. He has a brithday party this weekend of some good family friends so he will likely try the cake there. I may give him something iwth corn syrup before then to see, but we do not even have anything in our house with it. (other than my diet coke and dh's coke but don't want him to learn to like that!). Even if he can now tolerate corn syrup, it would be rare occasion he would have it. Same with artifical colors/flavors, think we are all better off without them other than occasional celebrations.
