For a long time now, my son has had crusty/flakey skin under his eyes.

The skin is sometimes red, sometimes not. It is usually directly under

his eyes and a little to the side (outer corner). It has been worse

lately. It doesn't seem to itch, but looks horrible. His pediatrician

says he thinks it's eczema, but the ointment he gave does not work.

I have tried putting monistat on it- to see if it was yeast. Did

nothing. I have put vaseline- nothing, I put an ointment for impetigo-

nothing. The only thing that helps a little is if I rub lanisoh (that

lanolin ointment) on it at night.

(Which, FYI, is wonderful for chapped/cracked lips from mouth

breathing during a cold)

I know it could be food intolerance and we are doing the IgG and IgE

test next week. I had taken away his enzymes several months ago. He

was on AFP Peptizyde and Zyme Prime. They make him very very moody and

irritable. This is after being on them for several months, so it's

not going away. We've tried the other version of those as well and got

the same thing. I'd like to put him back on enzymes bc we are trying

to go off the diet (the eye stuff started while still on gfcfsf). But

I don't know what other brand is good to use.

He's had some other skin stuff going on, as well- don't know if they

are related or not. His skin on his arms is very rough- like

sandpaper if I don't put shea/cocoa butter on it. A million little

bumps- flesh colored. He's also had a few patches of those on his

chest and back. Then today I notice he has what looks like a ringworm

circle on the back of his thigh. Again, don't know if those are

related or not.

Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

what do you mean by biotin issue? Too much? Too little? He gets 150

mcg/day in his multivitamin(Klaire Labs Vitaspectrum).

My 7yo aspie son had the same kind of rash for over a year. I took

him to countless docs and bought a lot of prescription pricey creams.

None of them helped. When I at last started giving him at least 300

mcg of biotin, it all cleared. Except the flesh colored bumps all

over his back...which I'm thinking has something to do with oils and

his inability to process them. We are GFCFSF and none of that helped

the rash. He had crusty spots on his scalp, rashes on his thighes

and bottom, and groin. And his feet peeled between the toes. It all

cleared with biotin. Good stuff. Don't forget to add the

magnesium...constipation is a wicked problem for my boy, and biotin

needs mag to work right so it will pull it and leave them bound up.

If you give too much biotin, they will get a headache. My guy can't

tolerate high amounts of biotin on a regular basis but I do increase

when I see a rash coming back.

Also wanted to chime in... our daughter had a rash on her bottom for months and

months.  Otherwise she is ok.  The rash would go away with hydrocortizone cream

but always came back when we stopped the cream.  We gave her 8mg of biotin/day

and probiotics and it went away in a matter of days.

Keratosis pilaris, which for my son required mito cocktail, B12,

biotin, and a few other supps to eliminate.

Ringworm is fungal. Try adding biotin.

Considering that 300-400mcg is USRDA, he isn't getting much biotin.
