This may help the immediate problem, but won't address the underlying cause. Check link above for things to correct the underlying cause. >>She also wants him to take an antibiotic like Flagyl to put the " good bacteria " back in his bowel. Probiotics will put the good bacteria in the bowel. Flagyl is an antibiotic and will strip out the bacteria, good and bad. >>I suggested giving him some magnesium oxide. Oxide is not well absorbed, so it does tend to help with constipation. Citrate and other versions are better absorbed, so they can help with underlying causes. >>Don't you think that antibiotic will kill off the good bacteria instead of putting it back in? Yes. Guest guest
Hi Deb, Constipation can be caused by different problems. Are you currently using a digestive enzyme with meals? Are you giving supplements that help with yeast? Have you tried Enzymedica's Virastop? Flagyl is an antibiotic. Antibiotics DO kill good and bad bacteria. An antibiotic won't put good bacteria back in. A probiotic would. Alessandra Enzymedica's Education Department Enzymedica.com > > My 5 year old grandson is having some elimination issues. I have never heard of an antibiotic not killing off the good bacteria. Thanks > Deb >
Guest guest
My son was having similar issues not too long ago. We tried Lactulose, magnesium, mega Vitamin C, senna and even glycerin suppositories when it was bad (as in no bowel movements for 5 days). What has helped? Water, water, water, water and more water. We have changed his diet bit. Adding prunes, more green vegetables and gluten free breads with more fiber. We also added one Jarrow Saccharomyces Boulardii & Enzymatic Therapy Probiotic Pearl before breakfast. But for me it's the water. At least 8-10 glasses (6-8 oz) a day. Previously he was only drinking 2-3 full glasses a day. Hope this may help! Mike > > > > My 5 year old grandson is having some elimination issues. He went to a GI doctor who did an x-ray. Guest guest
.. Adding prunes, more green vegetables and gluten free breads with more fiber. What brands of breads/recipes do you use?? i want to do this as well but most use primarily refined flours. amy
Guest guest
I know we use Ener-G high fiber loaf. We also use Bob's Red Mill bread mix and use it for pizza crust. One package makes two 12-14 inch crusts. I use plain tomato sauce and add pizza seasoning for the sauce. I then top it with vegatables (green peppers, mushrooms, even yellow squash), sausage and/or pepperoni. I also add about 1/2 a cup of ground flax seed to the mix. Sure, there's no cheese, but my boys don't care. Since we have been making this 2 times a week, my son's " regularity " has been amazing. Guest guest
if it appears hard on an xray. it would be more painful to move along with magnesium. the enema is necessary to provide moisture to " soften " up the stool. I 'm assuming the doc was recommending an adult fleet's ? the flagyl is specific for anaerobic bacteria and certain parasites. . linda rn Help with clean out question My 5 year old grandson is having some elimination issues. Guest guest
We went thru the same thing with DS bout a year and a half ago or so. He wasn't able to go for over a week. We took him to the ER and the xray showed it was huge and was too big to pass. They did the enema on the spot and he went right then and there. He slept like never before that night!!! Before going in the docs suggested something but I can't remember what it was...something with an M. I think it made him worse. From our experience the enema was the fastest & easiest way to get the bowel out. They had never mentioned Flagyl to us. But the enema was not traumatic for us at all. > > He went to a GI doctor who did an x-ray. Said that he had some " hard " stuff in the sigmoid region. Suggested 1 adult enema and 1 child's enema.
