Guest guest
TACA once had an article on a woman who did biomed without much money. If you contact them perhaps you can contact her with suggestions. > > > > hello, was hoping for ideas and suggestions for a single uninsured > mom, who works part time how to afford the expense of biomed. Guest guest
I wanted to point out that " going bankrupt " and " running out of money " don't necessarily mean being homeless. When we were starting to spend huge amounts of money on biomed my dh asked " would we rather live here in our house and have Avery suffer like this, or would we rather live back in our old (scuzzy) apartment and have him be okay? " . I would move back into the old apartment (rent was about half of our mortgage payment) in a heartbeat if I knew that money would help my son, and therefore all of our family, lead happier and healthier lives. I also found that going GF/CF didn't cost any more money- sometimes if you are really creative, like the person who posted about buying beef in bulk from the farmer, you can eat extremely well for very little. A friend of mine is about to go on the GAPS diet (like SCD) on food stamps and welfare. She is obsessive about saving money and will be able to do this on less than most people on food stamps spend to eat " normally " . Another idea is to look into the GAPS Diet (GAPS stands for Gut And Psychology Syndrome). In reading the book, I was amazed at how the issues that we have been addressing with my kids through biomed (the nutritional deficiencies, high histamine levels, oxalate problems, extreme food sensitivities, virus in the brain, immune problems, etc) can all be traced back to abnormal gut flora. We weaned off all supplements and started the diet, and he is so much better on this diet without the supps than he was on GF/CF/SF with tons of supps. I am planning to reintroduce some supps, but what is so surprising to me is how much this diet is taking their place. I never would have believed this a few months ago. It's like a cloud has lifted, like when we first went GF/CF, and it costs so much less to do it this way. It may not be for everyone, but it may be worth looking into for some people. I became extremely ill last summer out of the blue- so sick that I couldn't get out of bed or lift a finger to do anything to help my kids. My mom and my dh had to figure out the whole extremely complex supp schedule. Anyway, my point is that if you don't have your health you don't have anything. Spending money now on things that build health is an investment, cutting corners on health to save money now can cost us dearly later on. Also, I'm not religious, but I've also had the experience that the money showed up for us when we needed it if we had faith that we could make things work. Creativity can get you pretty far. -Sierra > > My son is on insurance and medicaid what sorts of things might be covered by these? > > -Undiagnosed Asperger's Syndrome > Stay at home mom to 3, Wife to > -6-6-02-Autism Spectrum, the light of my life > Katy-11-19-03-undiagnosed genetic syndrome that includes cleft palate-Pierre Robin Sequence, scoliosis, heart defects, short stature, low muscle tone, developmental delay, oral defensiveness, g tube fed part time-working on oral feeding, slightly dysmorphic features, and my joy > J.D-no issues except he is totally in love with mommy, cutest baby in the world > visit my blog http://busiestmommyinamerica.blogspot.com > " If you think my hands are full, you should see my heart!
