Guest guest
Hi, Your no-no list reminds me very strongly of Feingold diet stage 1 (www.Feingold.org), in that both the artificials (always out on Feingold) and the high-salicylate/phenol fruits (out in stage 1, introduce gradually in stage 2 to see what your child can/cannot tolerate) are on the list. I'm somewhat surprised that cranberries are a good item for your child, because I thought all berries were on the no list, at least for stage 1. I'm having trouble locating the list of foods on the site, but maybe someone else can help. By the way, watch out for salicylates in sunscreen, as they have the same effect as those taken internally (remember the skin is an organ, hence medications (and toxins) can be delivered into the system that way as well as orally/injected, etc.). Our daughter has major issues when we use anything with " salate " at the end of the name of the active ingredients. Hope this helps. Date: Tuesday, February 2, 2010, 12:43 PM Let me first start by saying - I have KNOW idea what is wrong with our son we just know what certain foods do to his behavior. We have an appointment with what we hope is our first real " DR. " to help us with our situation as our regular pediatrician is worthless when it comes to this matter. Our sons symptoms are pointing leaning towards Extreme Phenol Sensitivity, Candida, or even Leaky Gut. The Dr. we are meeting with is a " doctor of chiropractic medicine and a Board Certified Clinical Nutritionist. " He was recommended to us by Dr. Devon Houston of Houston Enzymes himself. Now I am not going to let him talk us into his chiropractic services but I think him being a Board Certified Clinical Nutritionist gives us hope. Our first meeting is next week. SOOOOOooooo...... Your wondering why the title? Well here is the short list of what our son reacts to. When we mean react - we mean SEVER MOOD SWINGS FOR THE WORSE!!! Sodium Benzoate Most artificial dye's Cinnamon Apples Blueberries Syrup Orange Juice Etc..... Here is what we have tried with QUESTIONABLE RESULTS. Epson Salt Baths No-Phenol Enzymes When our child has a Behavior Breakdown Episode we have been giving him about 4 oz. of Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice Cocktail Ingredients: Filtered Water, Cranberry Juice from Concentrate, Cane or Beet Sugar, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) (NOT THE OCEAN SPRAY CRANBERRY JUICE WITH HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP) It is amazing to see our child go from fighting with his little brother to playing nicely withing 30 minutes of the juice when he is having a Bad Boy Episode. Now we have found that if we give him Cranberry Juice to much or to often it doesn't work. Ok... Now down to the yogurt. This was discovered on accident. My wife started buying a Organic Yogurt from the store and our son has been asking it for dessert after dinner every night. His behavior has been REMARKABLY GOOD as long has he has his yogurt. We ran out of yogurt and went a few days without him having it and the OLD BAD BOY returned. We got him back on the yogurt and so far so GOOD!!! YEA US!!! I see alot of you trying this and trying that and some of you give your vitamins/enzymes/supplements mixed in Yogurt (GOOD) and some of you mix your stuff in Apple Sauce (BAD). Is there a chance - just a chance that the Yogurt is what is helping your child - not all the stuff your mixing in it? I know that some of you cannot give for child Yogurt for Lactose reasons but for those that can. What do you think? Mixing your enzymes in NEON YELLOW DYE INJECTED APPLE FLAVORED YOGURT might just be a problem. Do Google/Wikipedia searches for Yogurt and Cranberries and you will find TONS of info on the health benefits of both. Regardless - we will let you know how our Dr.s appointment goes. Guest guest
I gave my son Cran-actin for a while to see if it would help him. Cranberry juice keeps bacteria from adhering to the lining of the bladder, making it good for urinary tract infections. That's where I got the idea to give it to my son. Yogurt has probiotics (good bacteria). In my humble opinion, your son could have overgrowth of bad bacteria. It sounds like a good plan to use both for a while??? I'm not a medical professional, so if anyone else wants to add to this idea, please do. It is inexpensive and easy to do.  Carol From: a_anonymous_neighbor <bonnerbb@...> Subject: Is Yogurt and Cranberry Juice our miracle cure? Guest guest
I would wonder that the craneberry juice is really making him better.. IE ,, if he reacts to foods then there is the range of reactions. First you can get a big high right after eating. which can last for hours.. a manic reaction . I often got carried away thinking I had found the magic pill that was going to cure me as I felt sooo good. It can be foods/ supplements/ environmental factors. Then there is the low.. I find that the more you have a certain food within a 24 hour period the more likely I will miss the high and go right into the low. So do be careful of this ... best luck.. nanci > > Let me first start by saying - I have KNOW idea what is wrong with our son we just know what certain foods do to his behavior. Guest guest
Any time my daughter craves a food it raises a BIG red flag. Like Nanci says, foods can give one a big buzz. My d would absolutely eat anything gluten and milk all day long if allowed. It took about 8hr into gfcf in 2001 for frequent seizures to begin-looked like DTs. They continued for 3d, tapering by day 4 and gone by day 5. This withdrawal response[seizures 8-12h later] continues to this day if she inadvertently gets even a tiny amount of either. Glassy eyes, dilated pupils, ataxia, and a fantastically high pain tolerance during these early years of addiction have all but gone now. It has been helpful for me to use the pain scale[1-10] to rate neuro irritability[10=seizure]. When I see an 8-9 day, I go back over the last 24h esp. to try and figure out what the exposures have been. Also going on a 4 day rotation eating pattern and eliminating all foods testing positive [42++] hs helped immensely. Doris Rapp's 'Is this Your Child?' is a good read for what foods can do to the body. > > > > Let me first start by saying - I have KNOW idea what is wrong with our son we just know what certain foods do to his behavior. Depending on which type are using, you are giving a moderate amount of probiotics with each serving. Obviously it was enough to hold some of the dysbiosis at bay. As your experience shows, it helps, but it by itself is not the cure. *Mixing your enzymes in NEON YELLOW DYE INJECTED APPLE FLAVORED YOGURT might just be a problem. ** Yep. Without a doubt food colorings are a terrible invention. One so unnecessary. Guest guest
- we will keep our eyes out for mood changes after eating anything with " salate " at the end of the name of the active ingredients. We have the same rule about anything that starts with " Ben " . We do already keep our eye out on dyes and other ingredients in things such as bubble bath with color in them. We will do some testing with your suggestion of " salate " in them as well. Thanks for your input! Carol - does " overgrowth of bad bacteria " have a name? We know that what ever is going on in there is sending toxins to his brain causing his behavior/mood to drastically change. I gather what you are saying is the yogurt is working for us because it has " GOOD bacteria in it and it is replacing the " BAD " bacteria. We just don't know what is going on in there. Your humble opinions were appreciated. Nanci and - what do you think about Miriam's idea of " low blood sugar levels " and " giving it too him too much or too often can reverse the effects. " All - THANK YOU so much for all of your input!!! It is REALLY appreciated. Any additional comments you can add would be great! Guest guest
Hi, Watch for these in non-food items (sunscreen is the one that comes to mind). I can't remember how old you said your son is, but if he's the right age, watch out for colored play clay (either skin contact or gets under his nails and accidentally ingested next time he eats) and similar exposures as far as colors (and remember, those colors are most likely not even certified as supposedly safe for foods, since the item they're in isn't intended to be eaten, so who knows what's in them!). Hope this helps. From: a_anonymous_neighbor <bonnerbb@...> Subject: Re: Is Yogurt and Cranberry Juice our miracle cure?
