Guest guest
Ammon sounds like a problem solver, very creative !!! Why does he have access to the candy? From: <autism_bites@...>Subject: Looking for suggestions before I lose my mindautism Date: Sunday, November 29, 2009, 6:43 PM The WWF tag team of and Ammon are wrecking havoc in our home the last few months and I'm just not sure what we can do.Ammon did give us a break on destroying these past months. Or should I say nothing NEW that we haven't figured out how to deal with. We had to throw out our TV entertainment center a few weeks back, because Ammon would get on top of it and rock it side to side breaking the joints eventually. It took him a couple of months but he was persistent. So I put the TV on top of the computer hutch (try lifting a 27" tube TV 6' off the ground, oof!) and since we had no place to put the lamp anymore (do you have end tables?) I went to the hardware store and got a florescent tube fixture and attached it to the wall 7' off the floor so Ammon wouldn't pull it down. Today Robin watched in disbelief as Ammon dumped out two laundry baskets, put the bigger one upside down, then the smaller one on top of that and used them like stairs. Walked up and switched on the light?!?! Next I'm sure he'll be hanging from it. Little monkey. If anyone who has seen our documentary or other TV features you'll know about our 'gate' that blocks Ammon out of the kitchen. Tonight the gate was closed and I found the ENTIRE bottle of hand sanitizer emptied on the floor with a nearby pile of cinnamon powder, all the while cute little Ammon was sitting on the counter with a 3 lbs bag of skittles between his legs stuffing his face. Arggggh! And in this corner, is the other 'tag team' member . She took it upon herself to take over for Ammon who had stopped his shredding earlier this year. She picked up this 'favorite' stim of ours this summer. She rips and tears anything composed of paper. Books, magazines, mail, bills ("no I have not seen that bill, when did you send it?"), homework, my notepad of things to do!! etc etc etc. She's been emptying out the trash bin of papers for more material lately. And our favorite, we have soooooo many, paper plates with food on them. Now we DO close the before mentioned gate, but our resident facilitator, Nephi, 'forgets' to close the gate. Thus giving access to the trash. But lately (you're not going to believe this) she has been taking soda cans out of the recycle bin and shredding THEM! Then of course she puts the sharp little pieces everywhere cutting and lacerating the feet of the rest of the family. Amazingly she does not cut her fingers doing this.Today to stay ahead of her trails of papers, I just the shop vac three times. Yeah we haven't used a regular vacuum since destroying three in two months a couple of years back.Oh, I forgot the other new trick Ammon has been up to when he wants his diaper changed: strip off all his clothes, take off the diaper and stick up his legs straight up in the air... and wait there. If we don't notice him soon enough he may roll around a bit. If the diaper is poopy? I think you may see how this is NOT one of our favorites. A few weeks ago he did this for the respite social workers who take him and out once a week. His venue? A Mc's playland. Yep! Butt-naked and poopy butt sticking up high and proud for all to see AND smell. Robin and I laughed until we cried. Our social worker... not so much.As you can see we are just about ready to lose it. Does anyone have something, anything that has worked for them? Thanks!www.AutismBites. comautism_bites

I too felt like i was going to lose it.I have two young 4 and 5 years and two older kids.My 4 and 5 year old tag team me.The A & D smeared on the bed and salt all over the floor as well as losing 6 shampoo bottles in a week caused me to to lock things up.Check the vitamin B levels. My daughter's language goes up with Vitamin B but so does hyperactivity and my sanity could only handle so much.. The ABA people said ignore it but one of the ABA people said make her clean it up, I liked that better. Guest guest
This sounds like yeast and/or food issues. B vitamins can make yeast flare up causing hyperness. The only thing that really got yeast under control for us is very strict special diet. I know this is very hard, but then living with what you are living with isn't a piece of cake either. Kids with yeast should not be drinking soda. -Sierra > >  My daughter was " dumping " everything in sight for a while . It gradually stopped . Don't know why it started or stopped. Guest guest
I know this sounds stupid, but what should they be drinking? They can't drink milk, artificial sweeteners are a no-no, most juices are high in sugar. That leaves water. My son throws up when he drinks water.  D. Guest guest
try making nut milks. i soak almonds, cashews and some brazils overnight in filtered water. then the next day, wash them and blend them with fresh filtered water then i put them in a nut bag, you can also use a new cloth diaper or cheese cloth, to drain the milk from the skins. you need about one cup of nuts to two cups of water. once you have the milk, you can mix it with a banana (if allowed), honey (if allowed) and some cocoa powder (without sugar), throw in some ice cubes and put it all in the blender for about a minute or two. absolutely delicious. Guest guest
Nut milks are a good option. Some juices are not so high in sugar (if you are buying juice, only get juice with no added sugar- maybe check the SCD approved list, some juices have added sugar without being listed). Watering down juice can help if that doesn't make him throw up. Ferments can be an option- like kombucha, although this will cause diet off, so be careful. My kids drink tea, plain or with honey. You could make herbal tea, maybe with healing herbs? Do you know why he throws up with water? I wonder what causes that? Sounds like it indicates something that needs attention. -Sierra > > > From: drissia wright <ritzywright@...> > Subject: Re: Looking for suggestions before I lose my mind > > Date: Wednesday, December 2, 2009, 4:56 PM > > > Â > > > > I know this sounds stupid, but what should they be drinking? Guest guest
My son does have some symptoms of a yeast problem; the digestive woes, the sensory issues, sleepless nights, etc. They seem to improve slightly when he takes probiotics and yeastaid from Kirkman; followed closely by fever blisters on his upper lip. According to the GI doc, they see nothing abnormal in the biopsies obtained from colonoscopy.  As always, I appreciate the input. It takes him a whole day(1 sip at a time) to drink a small bottle of Deerpark water. He just hates it.  From: purpledragonmama05 <sierra.ansley@ gmail.com> Subject: Re: Looking for suggestions before I lose my mind Date: Wednesday, December 2, 2009, 3:08 PM  This sounds like yeast and/or food issues. Guest guest
Thanks. I will try diluted juice. He tolerates grape and pineapple. Guest guest
We dilute natural, organic fruit juices and then add liquid stevia for sweetness. Also, Honest Kids juice pouches for a treat/when other children are having sodas or juice pouches. HTH,
