Guest guest
Hi Dana, She's been having severe constipation again, and all our doctor has recommended is either Milk of Magnesia (every day for quite a while) and/or benefiber/generic equivalent: treating the symptoms but not the cause. Also, she's " going " every day, but not anything that looks like a normal bowel movement, and I don't like the fact she's probably " hooked " on the MoM. We absolutely refused Miralax, as she was on that several years ago and we're still having oxalate problems thanks (?) to that. I'm thinking I pull the MoM when we start the biotin (1000 mg) or do I give the biotin a couple of days to " kick in " ? Also, the smallest biotin's I've seen in the store (major chain drugstore) are 1000 mg. Do the health food stores have the 200's? (I take it the mg's you list are biotin, not magnesium, or am I misreading it?) Thanks. I was giving my almost 4 year old son, 32lbs, 5mg of biotin per day but i didn't realize I should be giving magnesium along with it. Do you give them at the same time? If you are not noticing any constipation issues, you can try giving 200mg. If that causes diarrhea, remove it. If the constipation is not resolved wit 200mg, try increasing to 400mg. My son required 1000mg at first, because he was severely biotin deficient. I was able to reduce the dose as his body started absorbing the biotin.
