Guest guest
Get a new pediatrician. Seriously. Ask around and find someone more openminded. Ours wants my son to be vaccinated but respects my feelings. She gives the 2 minute lecture and ends it with " you know it's my responsibility as a doctor to inform you of these things. " but she understands why I don't do it. She even runs my son's titers each year so we have his numbers on record, in case something should ever go wrong with the religious exemption. this doctor is going to give you nothing but grief. Guest guest
Change doctors! She has no right what so ever. What nerve for her to act as though she knows for a fact that vaccines do not cause autism. I would have a few words for her... Guest guest
I don't know what state you live in, but I would look into the religious exemption from shots for your school district. Heaven knows that if this doc is calling you at home telling you to get shots, she may report your family. At least in Florida, we can get that exemption and be satisfied. What nerve that doctor has! Hope all is well today. Susi > > I took my 14 year old son with autism to the doctor today for his physical and she gave me such a hard time because I will not let him get his dpt shot. Guest guest
I would via your friends/contacts w/i the autism community find a more open-minded doctor. This will be a recurring issue and you don't need that additional stress. Call the NVIC, put out emails to your chat groups in your town/state and get a new doctor. Rather than confronting the doc. send them a polite letter with references to research she can do on her own time, not yours. Guest guest
I would look for another pediatrician who respected my wishes and worked with me - not against me. You can do what the reader below has suggested as well. From: gfcfmommy@... Guest guest
Carla, I agree with you completely, get the exemption and find a different pediatrition..... Guest guest
Thank you for the replys. She kept insisting that I was being negligent because he could step on a rusty nail or get bit by a dog and actually had the nerve to tell me it wasn't going to make his autism any worse. She hasn't given me a hard time in years so I was pretty shocked. She would usually tell me they needed them...I would say no and we would move on. The other day though she would not let it go. I will look into the exemption thanks Dianne > >> > >> I took my 14 year old son with autism to the doctor today for his > >> physical and she gave me such a hard time because I will not let him get > >> his dpt shot. Guest guest
Dr. Annika just switched over to the Center for Children and Families next to Christus Santa . She is an attending at the residency program, but does see patients. She just got back from the DAN conference in Dallas. The number there is 210-704-4140. > > Change doctors! Guest guest
I do live in New England, so does that mean by law I have to vaccinate.
Guest guest
I enrolled my 2 year-old in a small daycare and i had to make a notarized note stating that my baby was not to be vaccinated because of " religious reasons " . It just depends on the daycare owner, i could tell she really needed the money so she was pretty much eager to get a new kid in her daycare. We live in El Paso, TX where nobody questions the safety of vaccines. We were dismissed from our Ped office because i refused the vaccines for my son. You really need to look for a doctor who respects your rights as a parent. Unless you live in Mississipi or New England you are not obligated to vaccinate. Guest guest
I would kindly tell her that you will be looking for a new doctor that respects your decisions. There is no way that I would go to a doctor that was trying to push me into things and make me feel as if I was being a bad parent for making educated decisions regarding my child. Sorry you have to deal with this! > > > >> > > > >> I took my 14 year old son with autism to the doctor today for his > > > >> physical and she gave me such a hard time because I will not let him get > > > >> his dpt shot. Guest guest
I have a GREAT pediatrician who is fine with us not vaccinating our 4 year old ASD anymore... I did go and get the religious exemption too and that was SOOOO EASY... took me 30 minutes and I did not have any problems.... It does help to have an awesome pediatrician on board too though... E-mail me off list and I will give you her name and number.. I've sent 10 of my friends there and they ALL love her and so happy they switched !!! :-)
