Hi everyone,

Our LLMD just recommended we both try the SAMe. He recommended to get

it at GNC. Very pricey, but you know how

we are, willing to try anything to feel better!

One bottle costs $39.99 with a second bottle 1/2 price. Then

if you join their club for $15, then you can buy everything of Tuesday

for 20% off. I got two bottles of 30 each of the 200 mg for about the

price of one bottle.

You can find GNC online.

I had said Costco was carrying SAM-e...when I went yesterday, I looked at

the

bottle...it is 60 pills of 200 mg each, they reccomend 2 pills a day dosing,

so...a months supply is 46.99. They also state that they are the only source

of

SAM-e in the U.S.A. >>

yes, but usually Costco is cheaper...so your example of $60 for the same

amount as Costco has ...shows Costco is cheaper by about 14$...I only shared

it with the list to help compare pricing...B

There was a discussion about SAM-e on news recently.. They said it costs

between $ 1 - 1.50 each tablet, which doesn't sound bad.... but each tablet

contains 200 mg and to be effective, you need to take 8 tablets a day... This

is a form of altered amino acid. It is not necessarily better than St

Wort, which is an herb, or prescribed antidepressants, including the SSRI

group.

I have never tried it, but on Good Morning America the other day, the Arthritis

Foundation was on there and it was one of the products they didn't recommend.

I say that too. The only reason that it wasn't recommended was because of

the lack of research in the USA. I'm willing to give it a try!

ah, but am-e is not a drug. seems some get great relief, others none. may have

side effects as well. but seems more natural than some of the more harmful meds

Hello!

Sam-E is a natural supplement. I started it on Friday. It is known to

help arthritis and you're supposed to see the difference in about two weeks.

I'll keep everyone posted. I'm willing to try Glucosamine too but I'll wait

for another month.

  • 2 weeks later...

I started taking green tea extract in pill form along

with a concentrated goldenseal/echinacea combo I found

at GNC I did notice my energy level was great and my

stomach was soothed from the amount of pills I take ..

I have to take vioxx 2x a day - I have kept ear/sinus

infections for the last 2-3 years - not sure why ...

something has also been affecting my teeth has anyone

else had this problem ... my dentist has had to pull

about 9 teeth in the past 3 months beacuse they

started breaking and some became infected under the

gums ... I am only 26 and it is all very disheartening

to me - I had braces at 16 and had beautiful teeth - I

developed the PA at age 18 and have had problems with

my teeth ever since.. I just wondered if there is any

type of correlation there ... luckily I have dental

insurance - I made the joke to my hubbie that I

probably have the most expensive mouth in the world -

after braces and constant root canals - crowns - now I

have had about 9 teeth pulled and need bridges on both

sides upper & lower ...

- Echinacea boosts the immune system. Since PA is supposedly an

OVERACTIVE immune problem, you might be doing yourself more harm than good.

I would definitely check with your rheumy about taking echinecea or any other

supplements or OTC medications.

Steve,

I now take between 400-600 mg a day (in the morning) for joint pain.

I seem to realy feel a diference (worse) when I stop.

When I took it for depression, I was *very* depressed and I wanted

some relief so I started with a lot, if memory serves 1200 mg.

You will know if you take too much, at least I did, I got jittery,

which went away when I reduced.

Also, it is very important that you take a brand which is properly

produced and stored, otherwise can be throwing away your money.

I take NatureMade because in a book, a researcher named Nance Stedman

recommended this brand. Now this was a few years ago, and brands

sometimes change, I don't know if she still recommends it, but it

works for me.

also take it on an empty stomach, and if you take it, take it continually.

good luck,

Ellen

thanks. I notice that all SAMe has the exact same ingredients and

fillers

(all brands). at my supplement store they told me that it's all

manufactured

in the same place (somewhere in Italy, i think) - and different brands

just

put their labels on it - perhaps modify the pill a bit - but there may

be

no difference between any of the brands.

From Stedman, author of the SAM-e handbook:

" It is crucial to buy products that really deliver. " ...

A sophisticated chemical analysis of 8 brands showed :

" In 3 brands we detected less active ingredient than listed in the

bottle. In one brand we detected no active ingredient at all. "

Al Cazp, publisher of the Alternative Medicine Review, " There's a lot

of useless material out there. "

Chemical stability is an issue with SAM-e. How it is formulated and

manufactured will determine its chemical stability.

Enteric coating is crucial.

Stedman gives a complete guide to buying SAM-e. It's a small

paper-back, doesn't cost much.

I suggest you give this book to your supplement store to read. (smile)

Also, if you do some research online, you will find the above

information by Stedman is generally agreed to.

This is absolutely correct. You really have to be careful about which

SAMe product you get. Most of the SAMe on the market is junk and

doesn't even come close to the minimum required SS isomer content. I

get mine from Life Extension Foundation.

The place I get my son's Sam-e has switched brands to Natures Way. Anyone have

any experience with this brand? Or is there a brand out there that is better?

Thanks, Tami
