Guest guest
Great idea. We are thinking about getting an iPad. Is this what your son uses? Are they fragile? any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. XPOST: iPad (iPhone/iTouch) apps for kids list in the making, please help I have decided to compile a list of apps for our kids on a very simple website. The request for ideas pops up quite often on lists and Facebook. I am asking for apps you've tried, whether or not you liked them. I always play with and try apps before letting my son use them. Some I find are great but either too easy or hard for my son, and some are down right awful. So I will ask that you rate the apps on a scale of 1-5, based on the app itself, not on how useful it was for your child since our kids are so different. 1 means it was awful, had glitches, was very difficult or really just lame. 5 is for a really good app. You can email me at _Ratlenhum@..._ (mailto:Ratlenhum@...) and put APPS or something similar as the subject as I get a ton of junk mail. I will start working on the list as soon as a few suggestions come through and will keep it going. Once it is started I will email out the website address. Guest guest
All of the Apps below get 5 stars from me. They are all interactive: DuckDuckMoose - Old Mac, Itsy Bitsy, Bus - This app lets you record your voice or your child voice to sing the song. It turns out to be a good tool to use when checking speech progression. Counting (123) - displays objects and asks how many. as your child touches each item, the app counts along. I think it is great for working with kids that count and don't know when to stop. i.e. see 5 objects and will count to 5 but then continue to 6 just because it comes next (eventhough there is no 6th object) 24x7digital - Sight Words (Free) - an app with a list of words that pronounces them for you. great for practicing and getting used to different words. bSmart Pre-K - ABCs, 123s, Shapes - Great for fine motor and pre-writing as you have to trace with your finger. I have several more but the apps above really help in our overall program. I use my iPhone as a " break from work "  tool with my daughter; she loves it. I personally think it has helped her to " look " at things where before she was all over the place. S. > >From: " ratlenhum@...
