Guest guest
That does sound like seizures so I would go to a neurologist with concerns like these. Milk isn't a necessity as long as the nutrition gained from it is supplemented for. You could give him something else to drink like juice or water. Some kids do just fine on soy, but I wouldn't do soy regularly because of the weird effects on the body. -Undiagnosed Asperger's Syndrome Stay at home mom to 3, Wife to -6-6-02-Autism Spectrum, the light of my life Katy-11-19-03-undiagnosed genetic syndrome that includes cleft palate-Pierre Robin Sequence, scoliosis, heart defects, short stature, low muscle tone, developmental delay, oral defensiveness, g tube fed part time-working on oral feeding, slightly dysmorphic features, and my joy J.D-no issues except he is totally in love with mommy, cutest baby in the world visit my blog http://busiestmommyinamerica.blogspot.com " If you think my hands are full, you should see my heart! He is having trouble swallowing. He only gets baby food....number 2's. Could this be signs of seizures? He also has regressed recently.... big time. Each day he gets worse. One mom suggested he may be having problems with the " milk " he has been on. He is Blue Diamond and has oxalate's in them. Would this be causing him problems? He is allergic to dairy, rice milk and the Mexican milk. Now the doctor said he is allergic to Blue Diamond also. What can I give him that is not going to cost me an arm and a leg? Would this be causing him problems? Any and all help would be appreciated. Guest guest
You may want to try potato milk--I've heard good things about Vance's Dairy Free. Have you tried soy milk? I didn't see it listed as one of his allergens. My boys have experienced no negative side effects from soy milk. I, too, was concerned about soy, but as our doctor points out, Asian countries have some of the healthiest people on the planet and they regularly consume soy. Regarding his symptoms, I have two boys with seizure disorders and this sounds similar to what we experience. You may want to double-check drug interaction information on the drugs and supplements he might be taking. Some things can make a seizure disorder worse. I definitely would get in to see a pediatric neurologist. Guest guest
It has phytoestrogens that scare the hell out of me and the proteins are similar to gluten and casein. I have known people to have very strange side effects from diets high in soy milk, but not cultured soy like tofu. This one lady I knew had irregular periods and weight gain until she stopped all soy milk. Soy is overused and anything that is used too much can be a problem IMO. Soy is in almost everything we consume. Guest guest
Thanks. My son would not tolerate milk as a baby so they put him on soy. He was on that for a long time. It did not have the same effects as regular formula, but still made him gassy. When he stopped drinking that, he refused any kind of milk. I currently use soy to make gfcf french toast which he eats daily. Just wondering. D. Guest guest
My kids have about 4 oz per day of soy milk. I know lots of people that eat flax seeds and they have more phytoestrogens than soy--more than twice as much in fact. Again, people in Asia eat lots of soy, including the men, and it doesn't appear as if the phytoestrogens cause problems there. Like anything, moderation (possibly rotation) is the key. Guest guest
The soy they eat in Asia is FERMENTED soy and in SMALL amounts, those who eat the same type of soy we eat here have high amounts of cancer just like we do. Investigate before using soy especially before giving to a male, this is a plant estrogen, males should never have estrogen in any form. Guest guest
One other point regarding soy milk. Multigrain bread is thought to be healthy and an essential part of a healthy diet. Many of us serve it to our children every day, yet it contains more phytoestrogens (4798.7 µg/100g) than soy milk (2957.2 µg/100g). If the concern is for the effect of phytoestrogens, the entire diet probably should be considered. All the best, Robyn
Guest guest
When I read your list of supplements for your son, I noticed you give DMAE. That rang a bell with me, so I googled " DMAE and seizures. " Here is the warning I found: Caution: DMAE may be ill advised for people subject to seizures according to some authorities. Although few side-effects have been reported, confusion, headache, drowsiness and muscle tension are possibilities. This might be something to ask your doctor about. Guest guest
If you investigate fermentation, you will find it changes the soy completely, another cavaet is the vast majority of soy is GMO, which everyone is bad, you cant escape it. investigate. Guest guest
I don't have time to read much and we avoid most soy anyway because we react to it the same as casein. Guest guest
Just to give an example of what soy can do to you (and i am a female..so imagine what it does to our boys)....i am a cacer survivor and have been in perimenapause for some time now. The hot flashes were getting unbearable so i went to my health food store and they suggested soy. I bought these soy capsules and almost all of my symptoms went away. Why? Because soy is very close to estrogen and the body recognizes it as estrogen. Hope that helps a little?
