Guest guest
I would not give him any banana at all until you get him tested for it. My son also has a banana allergy. For him it causes intestinal issues. Blue lips would be a cause for concern to me. Better safe than sorry. You can develop an serious allergy very quickly. JMHO, > > Hello Everyone, > I've been noticing something strange for a while now. Sometimes when my son eats breakfast he will get blue/purple lips, like he's cold. This only happens at breakfast and maybe for up to an hour after. It doesn't matter what time of year, I remember it happening over the summer. His pre-school teachers noticed it last week also and were concerned that he wasn't getting enough air. He seems OK, still happy and plays fine. I did a test where I didn't give him bananas for a few days, then I gave him one this morning. Sure enough, blue lips appear for about an hour or so after breakfast. > Is it possible that bananas are causing blue lips? if so, is it harmful? I have been wondering if he has a phenol issue, but haven't investigated much yet. I've read many posts about red faces and ears from phenols, but has anyone seen blue lips? Are there any tests that a DAN! could do to help figure it all out? I've read the list of high phenol foods and it seems overwhelming. > Any advice would be great. > - > > > > >
Guest guest
I can't eat bananas at certain times of the year due to criss reactivity with environmental pollens--my mouth gets tingly. My banana-holic son stopped eating bananas cold turkey the same point my allergy surfaced this fall, so I am positive he gets the same reaction. I would not give your son any more bananas until you have him tested. Bananas are low phenol, but high amine. I have amine links in the middle of my phenol page http://www.danasview.net/phenol.htm My son tolerated bananas with No-Fenol enzyme [even tho they are low phenol], so you can try that.
