Question About Epsom Salt Baths for Constipation

Hello, this is my first post to the group. I'm hoping some people here can

assist me with something that has been a stubborn problem for us. I have read

the book Enzymes for Autism and Other Neurological Conditions. One thing that

was of note to me in the book, besides the stuff on enzymes, was what

wrote about treating her younger son's chronic constipation with magnesium. I

was excited about this, because my 21 month old son has been constipated since

he was fourteen months old. He poops just once a week, and it is very traumatic

for him every time.

He is a picky eater and drinker, and he is on the SCD. This creates a challenge.

No Oxy Powder. No flavored version of Natural Calm. I have tried a lot of

different ways of getting the magnesium into him, and I have found ways to hide

magnesium in his food, but I need a way that I can control the dose each day

consistently. I can't put it in everything I make, and he doesn't eat the same

amount of food every day. After giving it some thought, I've decided that the

transdermal method of getting the magnesium into him would be the best way for

us.

I am concerned about the safety of high amounts of epsom salts in his bathwater

every night for a period of six months. This is the length of time that

says is necessary to treat encopresis, or prolonged constipation. It takes that

long for the stretched out colon to return to normal.

Does anybody have experience using epsom salt baths to treat constipation? Does

anybody know if epsom salt baths carry any risk?

We use Epsom Salt Baths for our son that has phenol issues and a faulty PST

pathway...it is magnesium sulfate. He takes a bath at least 5 nights a week in

it, for the past year. Not sure if the transdermal method of it helps with

constipation or not. Drinking it would though...but we use Magnesium Glycinate

for my other son's constipation. But it really didn't clear up until we

addressed his bacteria problem along with magnesium, Vit C and probiotics.
