Guest guest
I am 3 weeks post double mastectomy. I had a 1.1cm tumor way against my chest wall that would never have been found without the mammogram! I went the radical route as I did not want to have to get radiation and constantly worry about the next recurrence. Lymph nodes were clear(!!), but I do have to take a cancer drug Arimidex with horrible potential side effects. When I had the mammogram, the radiologist insisted it looked like I'd been in a car wreck (no external bruising, though). I remembered my hyper dd whacking me in the chest with her head as she rose up from getting in a drawer a few weeks earlier. It was very premonition-y at the time and all I can think is that that damage drew attention to that little spot way in the back, or it may have been missed. The other side had been uninterruptedly painful for 20 yrs with fiber cystic lumps, which they said made it hard to read the mammograms. The oncologist said mine was absolutely caused by HRT, which I'd been on for 12 yrs to keep down the dehabilitating hot flashes (no one else in my family has had cancer). Mine rated the highest number they could give for growing by means of estrogen. Lesson: Get those mammograms and put up with those hot flashes!! Stay off HRT all you can ( & then some)! Well, one I got the other day scares me, and I wonder if it's true about mammograms being more harmful than good. I have one scheduled for Thurs, 12/29. I am in the high risk category because of my 2 sisters. Does anyone have any input? > Thanks! > > > > > > >
Guest guest
But if you do your hrt, use bioidenticals, preferably via the skin (especially for the estradiol). It is the progestin that is synthetic that is most linked to breast cancer. A trial of bioidenticals in France showed no higher breast cancer for at least 5 years, though more study is needed.
