Guest guest
ALA will not help. It actually decreases excretion and it is advised not to use ALA on a person high in copper. Hope this helps 38 and Mom to three Tasha 23..new Mommy ( means I am a Grammy ) Casey-Mae 13..sweet as pie Elijah 2.. Guest guest
Thank you to everyone who has responded to my question. I have Metagenics Zinc Drink, and I gave each of my kids 1 tsp this morning. Is that enough? How long do I give it to them? Y. Guest guest
>I have Metagenics Zinc Drink, and I gave each of my kids 1 tsp this morning. Is that enough? How long do I give it to them? Hi Just read the instructions, especially regarding how much water to give it with. I seem to recall that its 1 mg zinc per 1 lb body weight when zinc loading (in 3 - 5 year olds) so 1 teaspoon seems a heck of a lot. I remember giving 1 ml (just under 1/4 teaspoon) in 100 mls of water of the Metagenics Zinc drink to my son when he was little. When my son was zinc deficient he didn't taste the zinc drink. Once his levels were OK, he started complaining the drink was " yucky " , so you can maybe use taste as a guide for your child. Good luck :-)

Generally means that the body is high in copper and is trying to excrete the excess thru the hair. Dana

Guest guest
Thank you. The only foods they are eating from the high copper list is avocado but they eat at least two per day every day. Could this be what has caused a high result on their recent blood test? rafidainraouf wrote: > >> >> What are high copper foods? >> >> Copper is found in organ meats, seafood, nuts, seeds and cocoa as > well as whole grain products. > http://www.ithyroid .com/copper. htm > COPPER > COPPER CONTENT IN FOOD - (Milligrams) > 1 oz baking chocolate (unsweetened, dark) - .748 > 1 Tbsp molasses, blackstrap - .284 > 1 cup whole milk - .50 > 1 avocado - .527 > 10 dried figs - .585 > 1 cup raisins - .498 > 1/4 lb beef liver - 3.2 > 1/4 lb lamb liver - 6.2 > 1/4 lb veal liver - 9.0 > 1 duck liver - 2.62 > 1 goose liver - 7.07 > 1 turkey liver - .512 > NUTS - > 1/2 Cup almonds - .59 > 1/2 C Brazil nuts - 1.07 > 1/2 C cashews - 1.41 > 1/2 C hazelnuts - .86 > 1/2 C peanuts - .31 > 1/2 C pecans - .57 > 1/2 C shelled pistachios - .76 > 1/2 C pine nuts - 1.16 > 1/2 C pumpkin or squash seeds - .95 > 1/2 C sesame seeds - 1.2 > 1/2 C sunflower seeds -1.29 > 1/2 C walnuts - .70 > 2 Tbsp tahini (sesame seed butter) - .48 > FISH - > 1/4 lb cod - .57 > 1/4 lb haddock - .26 > 1/4 lb herring - .34 > 1/4 lb salmon - .22 > 1/4 lb trout - .37 > 1/2 cup tuna - .10 > SHELLFISH - > 1/4 lb crab - 1.47 > 1/4 lb lobster - 2.49 > 1/4 lb oysters - 1.36 > 1/4 lb scallops - .14 > 1/4 lb shrimp - .49 > 3.5 oz snails - .40 > 1 c asparagus - .20 > 1 c collard greens - .484 > 1 c cooked kidney beans .647 > 1 c cooked lentils - .54 > 1 c cooked lima beans - .519 > 1 c okra - .94 > 1 c paraley - .293 > 1 c green peas - .257 > 1 c cooked split peas - .50 > 3 medium pimientos - .60 > 1 c potato - .388 > 1 lg baking potato - flesh and skin - .26 > 1 c pumpkin - .33 > 1 c soybean sprouts - .30 > 1 cup spinach - .32 > 1 sweet potato - .22 > 1 cup tomato juice - .246 > 1 cup yams - .484 >
Guest guest
I think its possible. Are their zinc levels low do you know? another article more specific to copper and autism. Didn't read the whole thing but it says chocolate and avacados are very high in copper. Might want to read for additional information http://overcomingcandida.com/autism_copperheads.htm 38 and Mom to three Tasha 23..new Mommy ( means I am a Grammy ) Casey-Mae 13..sweet as pie Elijah 2.. Guest guest
This is an issue for my family as well and I've gotten a lot out of other people's posts. I have a few quick thoughts to add. First, since copper and zinc are antagonists people with high copper might consider being tested for Pyrroluria, which is an inborn error of hemoglobin synthesis that causes a deficiency of zinc and B6 (I have read that about 25% of people on the spectrum have it). My ASD ds and I both have it. Also, high copper levels are related to Histadelia, which is the condition of having high levels of histamine in the blood. Again, this condition is estimated to be much higher in the ASD population than in the NT population (both of my sons and I have this too). I've also heard that this can be from having copper pipes- not sure what to do about that! We have been supplementing with about 25 mgs of zinc per day and are doing much better. -Sierra > >> > >> What are high copper foods?
