Guest guest
Hi everyone, I was wondering, does anyone have experience with their ASD child being petrified of birds, specifically seagulls? Lately he is scared of the public too. He hates going outdoors. He always asks us why are they looking at me? He blushes as a result. It is becoming really difficult to do any outdoor activities Thanks Heleni __________________________________________________________________ Instant Messaging, free SMS, sharing photos and more... Guest guest
Our child has not been diagnosed as having an ASD, but there is a possibility he is mildly Aspergers, but he does have SPD. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that he was horribly afraid of any birds in our back yard!! It started last season with a nest under our back yard deck where his yard toys are stored. He started freaking about the mother bird who made " too much noise " , I found him crouched in a corner under the deck screaming like he couldn't get away!! Then he would go outside just to turn around and come running back in crying about the birds scaring him. This season it started to happen again, BUT strangely what worked for him is to learn about them in school! They did a unit on birds, learning about the birds in our region, they also listened to bird songs as part of the lesson. Since then, he has been perfectly fine about going into the yard all by himself again! I don't know, if this would help your son, but it's worth trying, maybe you could focus on the bird that scares him, get library books and find sounds online, talk about it in a calming way. My son goes to a Montessori, so everything is done in a very calm fashion with a lot of focus on peace and individualism. Maybe that will help. > > Hi everyone, > I was wondering, does anyone have experience with their ASD child being petrified of birds, specifically seagulls? Lately he is scared of the public too. Has your son had any triggering factors, like being attacked by a dog? Dana
