Guest guest
Hello all, Trying to understand what to do, if anything, about my son's enzymes . . . I started my 28-month-old ASD son on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet two weeks ago. We stopped using the Houston Chewables we'd been giving him, as well as several other supplements, because they are not SCD legal. He was doing just so so on GFCF and the enzymes and other supplements, and had diarrhea for 2 weeks before we decided to go for SCD. While we started the diet and waited for the new Kirkman enzyme capsules our DAN doc recommended, he basically had an overnight improvement in his stools. From constant diarrhea or mush to totally formed stools. I have to assume this rapid improvement was due to stopping the supplements rather than the diet, which I assume would take a bit slower to work. When we started the Kirkman enzymes - set back - immediately back to runny/mushy stools. So I stopped the enzymes again, and his stools became regular. So, should I give him enzymes at all? Am I possibly using too much (one capsule per meal - about 6 per day). Or, should I consider sensitivity to ingredients like the bromelain and papain? What's the best way to sort this out? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks! Kelley
Guest guest
Hi, Houstons has an SCD version of their enzymes. I would pay attention to the fruit based enzymes like bromelain and try and not give him those. Also, not sure about Kirkman's Phenol assist but no-fenol does tend to soften stools. Good luck, Dani > > Hello all, > > Trying to understand what to do, if anything, about my son's enzymes . . . > > I started my 28-month-old ASD son on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet > two weeks ago. Guest guest
Initially when I gave my son (celiac) no-phenol, his stools were awful (softy, smelly and some diahhrea). I slowed down the dose and eventually he adjusted. --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Try it now.
