Guest guest
Hi, I thought that the SCD would eliminate my child's PANDAS tics, and help my sons gut. Well it has helped his disposition, but not my daughters tics. She is eating food that makes them continue. But she feels better she says! I am ready to quit. I had my seriously underweight, malabsorbing son eating 2000 calories a day and he was doing well on a GFCFdiet, but not great - and now he is barely consuming 1200 calories a day.He is not having a regular stool anymore. While I see the benefits, I cannot emphasize how thin he is and how I am worried abot ketoacidosis, etc and losing weight. He also is having diarhhea from all the fruits and vegees.Beofe the diet his stool was good.(sorry!) Has anyone had problems with htis diet? I know Dana said her kids didn't tolerate the foods on the diet.
Guest guest
This sounds really really stressful, and it may not be the right diet right now, but here are a few thoughts- How long have your kids been on the diet? Did you do the stages from Pecanbread or not? Part of SCD is not eating things that bother you- it should be personalized, so if fruit isn't working don't eat it and eat other things. Why is your son getting so few calories- is he refusing food? There are many ways to make the diet work, I'd post on an SCD board to see what other parents did in this situation (many have been in this situation). Also, some people don't do well on SCD and do much better on the GAPS version, you could look into switching to see if it would help. For your daughter, she may need to remove histamine foods to address tics, or if they are caused by bacteria, it may take awhile to resolve this. Are you doing probiotics along with the diet? -Sierra > > Hi, > > I thought that the SCD would eliminate my child's PANDAS tics, and help my sons gut. Guest guest
I encourage you to post your question to the pecanbread forum: pecanbread/ It's the adapted version of SCD for kids with an ASD. They can help you address problems and help you through this. It's worth a try before you make the decision to stop. Best wishes! > > Hi, > > I thought that the SCD would eliminate my child's PANDAS tics, and help my sons gut. Well it has helped his disposition, but not my daughters tics. Guest guest
Thanks for your answers! I am really considering adding in a few high calorie easily digestable carbs to help with his weight and stool. There must be something that doesn't feed yeast? I don't want to abandon the diet, but he is just skin and bones - but full of energy at the same time! Thanks again, Susi
