Guest guest
Ok, we just got back the Organic Acid Test results from Great Plains. I was very suspicious of yeast because my son used to eat TONS of sugar. He is now gluten/casein free, cut back on sugar/dyes and he making remarkable improvements. He does have stimming issues still (hand in front of face, making noises)but he is doing so much better and less stimming. It used to be almost constantly making noises, which I heard is a BIG sign of yeast. So, I checked the yeast section on the test and he is " High " in 3 types of yeast. The most shocking was the arabinose levels....0-47 is normal and he is at 1,390.23!!!!!!!!!! WHAT!!! Has anyone had high levels of this which you were able to successfully treat? I don't know whether to be happy because it's treatable or scared because it's out of control! I read some previous posts about yeast/oxalates and his oxalic level was 84.10 and the " normal " range is 0-37, so that is substantially high as well. I guess I am just looking for some support....the arabinose especially seems SO high!!!
Guest guest
Sorry, I answer your question first hand , but, it so happens that I've been researching yeast and stumbled across this article (re: arabinose levels.) Perhaps it is something interesting to you too? http://www.newtreatments.org/doc.php/WisdomExperience/46 best, > > > So, I checked the yeast section on the test and he is " High " in 3 > types of yeast. Guest guest
We got our results back from Great Plains and also had high arabinose (not nearly that high though, one son was at 210 and the other at 100). This was out only " yeast marker " and both kids had no sign of yeast in the culture and sensitivity test. I asked about this on some lists and basically there is disagreement as to whether arabinose is a sign of yeast at all. I first read Dr Shaw's perspective in his book " Biological Treatments for Autism and PDD " (which I have to say, I find pretty convincing and I lean towards it), however someone who is very knowledgeable and who's opinion I trust sent me several articles that basically said that arabinose is not produced by yeast- that yeast actually consume it, and that it something that is found in carbohydrates and having a high arabinose level is a sign of poor carbohydrate digestion. This actually fits both of my kids really well. I've also been told that high this relates to high oxalates adn that the woman (I forget her name, something Owen?) who runs the low oxalate diet list has an interesting theory about arabinose and carbohydrate digestion. I can't find the links to the other articles about arabinose right now. You can e-mail me off-list if you want them and I can look around more. Sorry, that probably caused more confusion than it helped! I'm at a loss right now about what it means. We will be seeing a new doctor this week and I am hoping for more help from her. -Sierra > > > > > > So, I checked the yeast section on the test and he is " High " in 3 > > types of yeast. Guest guest
my son had very high oxalic and very high arabinose (like close to 2000) on the OAT, of course, every category on his test was abnormal except for one (yes that is 1). He had the OAT combo. It's my understanding that the OAT measures anaerobic yeast and the fecal part measures aerobic yeast. that might be why yeast did not show up in the fecal test. My son had " moderate " yeast in his fecal. I did not think his arabinose should have been as high as it was. I have seen literature on both views, that arabinose indicates yeast or that it does not, and I dont know what to think. My son's digestion is horrible though. I'll be seeing my son's DAN on Feb 7 though and I hope to get some more insight. --- purpledragonmama05 <sierra.ansley@...> wrote: > We got our results back from Great Plains and also > had high arabinose > (not nearly that high though, one son was at 210 and > the other at > 100). Guest guest
My sons, nt 5 yr old with food allergies, arabinose was 246. What I found interesting that his worse, IMO was his adipic. Reference range is 0-12, he was 642. The interpretation said may be due to fatty acid oxidation disorders and recommended L-carnitine 500-1000 mg per day. Which I need to work in yet. He also showed elevated hippuric acid, which states from gastrointestinal bacteria. So I've been doing biocidin from Brainchild hopefully hitting the yeast/bacteria issues. It also stated toluene may be absorbed from outgassing of new carpets and other building materials, which we just built a new house and moved in last September, previous house was new also when he was 18 months. This one we built, cleaned and cleaned, cut down on carpet, infloor heat, air exchanger etc. Todays new houses are so tight, toxins there are a concern. The house we moved into when he was 18 months, we had a terrible first winter here in Wisconsin. That house was so poorly constructed, cleaned, god only knows what it looked like under the carpeting. They didn't clean up when doing anything, under the hot tub, the duct work, the dishwasher area and " inside " down in the cabinets, just very poor cleaning practices. This one we built, so not the case and we've had our best healthy year yet. I'm so glad those trips in do the doctors office are gone!!! Guest guest
Thanks for your reply...That's so funny you mentioned Dr. Shaw. My dr. was able to speak directly to him regarding my son's outrageous arabinose levels. The dr. said that in his 15 years of experience, my son had the highest arabinose level he had ever seen! My son also was extremely high in hippuric acid (relating to bacteria) and extremely high in Vitamin C,which Dr. Shaw says is also directly related to yeast. I had read about the oxalates before. My son doesn't eat many things on the " high oxalate " list. He had a diet of VERY high sugar..Dum Dums, fruit snacks, fruit juice, etc. for years...so we do think yeast is the culprit. He's not a big carbohydrate person..never liked bread, french fries, etc. I love hearing about different approaches though, so I will def. keep what you said in mind and will try to talk to our dr. about that. My son is on the GFCF diet and we have cut out almost all sugar..We have seen a dramatic change since doing so, and I do mean dramatic. We will either be starting Nystatin or ThreeLac this week, along with starting Cod Liver Oil, probiotics and Super Nu Thera. It scares me so bad to think about what would have happened if we never would have had this test done or implemented dietary change. > > > > > > > > > So, I checked the yeast section on the test and he is " High " in 3 > > > types of yeast.
