Guest guest
HI Sara, I too have two toddlers 18 mo apart. My daughter Teagan (currently fevering and just turned 2 this week) has an episode every 3 weeks without fail. My son (age 3) initially really struggled with the extra holding she required. Even though I have my husband in the evenings, he still wanted me. He has most recently started to want to help his sister feel better. I've taught him to rub her head, make her laugh or just read her a book. He seems to do much better with that. we also rent a new movie for him with each episode so that he can feel special too. we play with him when she sleeps. I usually stay home from work during her episdoes but I still have our babysitter come which really helps because he gets all her attention. I think most important is that you keep the other childs routine the same and try to get them involved in caring for your sick one. Now if someone could just make my Teagan feel better today! She's on both tylenol and motrin but the temp is 103 and she's miserable! If we could only take thier place for them. Good luck Sara. Guest guest
Great idea on getting the well child involved in helping the sick one - thank you! I am going to try to come up with something that Alice can do and understand. I hope that Teagan is feeling better now. We will think of her during 's next round. They are on close to the same cycle. I hope that you all have an easy night tonight and truly appreciate that you found the time to right in the midst of her fever episode.. Guest guest
Hello I'm new to the group and have loads of questions. I'll post some of them seperately so theres not 1 very long and confusing post if thats OK. I'll thnak you in advance for any advice/support as we are so desperate to help our son. Sorry for the length of this but need help so need to give some hsitory. My 2 year old Charlie has struggled since birth. Despite MANY hosptal appointments I've been labled neurotic mother and had my mental health questioned becuase I won't take no for an answer. He is pink, breathing and growing but no one seems concerned about his constant levels of distress. I feel his development is not where it should be (although not obvious to Dr's) and he has definite speech delay (acknowledged by Drs). He recently had assessment at child development centre which concluded they saw reasons for possible concern around his social and interactive skills. As we were already working with a nutritionist for my 7 year old daughter (totally different reasons - she has a congesnital genetic blood disorder) I treat Charlie with supplements from a very early age according to his symptoms. He has culturelle, probiotics, fish oil, magnesuim, calcium, zinc, trace minerals. At 13 months old we started fengold diet with good results. We then progressed to failsafe with fantastic results but diet is just too restrictive. Charlie most definitely has sulphation problems and the low fenol diet meant it was impossible to implement gluten free (nothing left to eat) although I'm sure gluten must be a problem - we limit as much as we can but not exculsively. He reacts to b vitamins and all preservatives. A couple of months ago we tried tri enza - tiny dose (sprinkle) MASSIVE reaction - full of distress, manic, and bad night terrors - definite chemical/brain reaction. Had a break tried no fenol - WONDERFUL results. He was HAPPY!!!, played by himself with toys!!! started eating, stopped choking, lots of sensory issues improved, his skin was amazing. THEN he got chicken pox - and went back to square one . The consistent thing we are seeing is regardless of diet and anything else each time he gets a virus, even just a tiny sniffle he becomes manic for about 10 days and totally stops eating - just wants breastmilk. He has had amino acid testing - OK, comprehensive stool analysis, OK except a few dientamoeba fragilis trophozites (parasite)) - Not sure how to tackle this as all natual remedies are so high in salicylates. Tried to move onto Zyme Prime but anppies were full of mucus and very watery - behaviour unmanagable - he then got another virus (cold type) so not enitrely sure which caused this. I am still breastfeeding so have strated tri enza myself in an aim to reduce peptide passing through breastmilk and to slowing inroduce other enzymes. Any advice appreciated - not sure what to do next. Many thanks Alison R (UK)
