Well, gave you some great info. I second what she said.

Basically, if your child isn't gaining weight, there is a

malabsorption issue going on. There are lots of possible reasons for

this, including enzyme deficiency, mitochond5rial issues, low zinc

levels (or magnesium levels too I think), overgrowth of bad stuff in

the gut like yeast and bad bacteria, and probably more! These things

can all feed into each other too so it can be hard to sort out what is

causing what.

Carnitine (we use acetyl-L-carnitine, supposedly better absorbed)

helps the body process fats and lots of parents post that their child

gained weight with this supp. Taurine is another amino acid, and it

helps in the production of bile, aslo very important in fat digestion

and absorption of fat soluble vitamins. It's my opinion that

deficiency in bile can lead to mito dysfunction due to lack of

absorption of CoQ10. I second the suggestion to look on Dana's site

for info about the mito cocktail, this has really helped my son.

Even if your child is eating what would be a healthy diet for a

healthy person, it may need to be tweaked for him. I would look into

removing all starchy things (can worsen gut overgrowth problems, which

inhibit proper absorption and enzyme function). Starchy things aren't

generally nutritious anyway. You might look at the Specific

Carbohydrate Diet or the Gut and Psychology Syndrome Diet (they are

similar) and can help heal the gut so that you son can then properly

digest and absorb his food.
