Dear All,

My 6 1/2 yr old son is doing quite well in school (he is mainstreamed in grade

I) with special support (he had ADHD- we do not see that any more). His IEP is

coming up again (he would be moving into 2nd grade) and we want to wean him off

the support.

The IEP draft that the school has sent us still calls for continued support

while we parents want to wean that off slowly. Pls advise as to how we can do

that as parents.

We want our son to be independent like other kids without any support and any

branding. What are the procedures in Loudoun County to do that?

Any experiences from parents in this regard would be helpful.

Kind Regards,

Sandeep

Are you in California? I just had my IEP a couple of weeks ago and they told me

that parents now have the right to pull services and fully mainstream their

children if they so desired. She said this was a new adaddition to the standard

procedures pamphlet you get at the beginning of all IEP's in California. Were

not ready for this yet but I thought it was nice to have that option if we

needed it.
