Guest guest
You can try mixing them in applesauce, sprinkle/mix in his food. Last resort you can mix it with a small amount of juice/water and give it to him in a syringe or off a spoon. From: <melissajoan1972@...> Subject: toddler probiotic Date: Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 8:51 PM Hi...my almost 2 year old who is dealing with texture issues (now off all dairy and gluten) no longer will drink any amount of fluid enough for to give him a powder probiotic. I used to give him it in his bottle which he would drink in one sitting. Now that he only drinks a sip of water or juice here or there, I can not find a probiotic to give him that lives long enough for him to drink it. It would need to be dairy and gluten free which I am having a tough time finding in the chewables. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!! Guest guest
I bought organic applesauce and he still could taste the probiotic, so myself, added organic cinnamon and it hid the taste so well. In fact he would then take anything if I added the cinnamon. It's amazing. Its so strong but yummy too. Anyway that's my suggestion. ________________________________ From: Seefried <jenniferseefried@...> Sent: Tuesday, January 13, 2009 8:22:04 PM Subject: Re: toddler probiotic You can try mixing them in applesauce, sprinkle/mix in his food. Guest guest
There are mixed views on whether or not probiotics can be given with food. Many recommend probiotics with clear fluids, which as you described, can limit the ways its administered. But many brands of probiotics (including the kind we buy) direct that they be given with a meal. I have been mixing our non-dairy probiotic into our son's vegetable purées just before serving. I don't consider it much different than giving bacteria fortified foods such as fermented/cultured vegetables. Guest guest
My son was exaclty like this when he was too. As long as he was having milk, I was able to mix anything and he finished it in one sitting. Once milk was out, it was the big issue as in your case. The only way I got him to take the supplements was thru apple/pear sauce. Now he is almost 3 and I am weaning him out of this fruit sauce. After fruit sauce, I got the supplements mixed in little bit fruit juice and gave it thru syringe. He liked it too. Gradually, I reduced the juice content and he got used to the different tastes of these supplements. So, dont worry, start with the fruit sauce. Add supplements little by little so that they get used to the new taste.
