I use Tea Tree Oil and Vicks VaporRub and rub it on the bottoms of their

feet to stop coughing. I was completely skeptical until I tried it after

reading from a naturopath. It actually works. The kids will stop coughing in

about 10 minutes. She said the bottoms of your feet are very absorbent, and

that the wrong place to put Vicks is on the chest because it locks

congestion in. I find Tea Tree Oil to be a very powerful antibiotic and

antifungal, and I also note that many times " colds " are exacerbated by a

yeast flare up - which can be helped by the TTO. TTO is not taken

internally by the way, just rubbed on your skin.

The other thing I have found to help is my " cocktail " of

Olive Leaf Extract for antibacterial and maybe some antiviral effect

Alpha Lipoic Acid to mop up free radicals etc

Selenium for immune

zinc for immune

magnesium for balance of above

calcium taken separately

Vit D for immune

and making sure they are staying clear in the GI tract by using fiber

capsules etc for elimination - laying around you sometimes get sluggish and

don't eliminate.

Since my DS will not swallow capsules, I am limited in products for cold and

sniffles, cough and fevers. My son is already on Enhansa, which is probably

the cause for on/off colds this month, but he needs something to feel better

and sleep better. I do give motrin, which helps tremendously. Benadryl helps

dry up the post nasal drip and helps with sleep, but I try to avoid it in

the daytime. We tried Mucinex sprinkles which helped a lot, but has so much

junk in it besides the drug.

We already do zinc, GSE, and lots of probiotics, (can't do C due to

oxalates) but I'm looking for something to help him feel better, not just to

stimulate his immune system to fight or to kill bugs. If it were me, I'd

take sudafed, motrin, and maybe some cough syrup to sleep. I ordered some

Sinupret, but don't know if that will help or not.

What can I use that will help him feel better while fighting these germs? He

is 5, 33 pounds, pretty good about taking liquid or chewable stuff as long

as it tastes good. Thanks!
