Guest guest
a, I think the betaine HCl would be worth a try. As far as the dosage goes, the suggested protocol is to take one with the first meal, and if you don't get a warm, burning feeling in your stomach, take two with the next meal, etc. When you do get a warm, burning feeling, drop back one and that's your dosage from then on. Guest guest
Whole Foods should be a good source for you. The only iffy meat I've found with them is their beef as Curtis reacted to it even though they swore it was organic. He does really well with Lara's brand of organic beef though which Albertson's carries. I think Tom Thumb carries it as well. If YeSeekers is still open, they sell (or used to) organic packaged meats. As for fish, my research found that if you broil it on a broiler pan or grill it on a fat-removing grill like the Forman, you reduce the chances of eating the metals because most are stored in the fish's fat. When we added back in fish 1-2 times a week cooking it this way, we did not see an increase in mercury during chelation rounds so I assume it works or we didn't happen to get any tainted fish during that period. What mail-order place do you use? I've thought about ordering organic meat that way. When I was searching the web for a place awhile back, I did find a farm in one of those little towns just north of Conroe. I can't recall which one right now but a search for organic meat would probably bring it up again. Gaylen

Guest guest
Hi a, Not much help here, only to tell to post your question to the GFCFKids group. You may get some ideas there as well. I would also check the whole food market on Wertheimer and Wilcrest, and the HEB Central Market. You might want to call and ask them first. There is also Sandy's market on Katy and Dairy Ashford. We rarely eat fish, so I can't help in that department. As for organic meat, some of the high-end grocery stores may sell it. Good luck, diet questions > As many of you know, our boys went gfcf this summer and I'm still trying to move in a direction of buying more healthy foods for the whole family. I was wondering if any of you in the Houston area buy organic meats from a store or do you just order them through the mail? We're in the Spring area(Northwest) and, of course, I'd love to be able to go buy meats somewhere rather than mail order(if it's not more expensive than mail ordering) > Also, all my kids really like fish and I would love to make it more often but I'm really worried about the mercury issue--for all of us--especially my boys who have autism. I usually buy farm raised catfish in the stores but recently read that even farm raised fish are tainted with mercury as well. The advice I read was to not eat ANY fish unless you are sure that whoever you are buying it from assures you that it's fish from pristine waters--free of mercury. Do any of you know of such a company or seafood shop in Houston that can do this? I want to eat fish again!!(boo hoo) > Thanks, > a > >

Guest guest
I shop at Whole Foods as well for Sammy. I have found some wonderful easy CFGF free chicken nuggets in the shape of dinosaurs- a lifesaver for nights I'm not up to cooking. I still struggle w/ buying all my groceries there because of the expense but I get what I can so I have a tendency to sniff out the bargains. Hot dogs are there and in a variety of pork/beef/turkey and chicken. They have bacon too. I get their sausage when on sale however be wary sometime they have sausage w/ feta. I also get cold cuts there too. However I am sure you are aware of the limited shelf life related to no preservatives. I shop at the Kirby store because I find they have the best variety. They told me they were gonna build a store in the Woodlands and then south by 288 where I live but that was 2 years ago. Hope that helps Jeneane

Guest guest
I make my own chicken nuggets. Very easy and delicious. Cut chicken breast (boneless and skinless) into chunks marinate with eggs dip in crushed potato chips (I use one with low fat and low salt) Fry in oil. I freeze them and use them as needed. Guest guest
Hi all, I hope you can help. Okay I tried the recipe below. My son hated it so much he nearly gagged and kept saying BAD, BAD! I also tried the recipe from " Special Diet for Special Kids " same reaction. Then I tried just using the baking flour from Red Mill that is Gluten free. He will chew it but still makes a terrible face and I have to bribe him with a piece of cookie after each bite. On the other hand he will eat 6 nuggets from Mc D's if he has the opportunity! Do any of you have this kind of eater? Matt eats nothing but cereal cookies chips and French fries. I have to supplement protein and everything else. When I was giving him the potato chip nuggets he actually refused to drink his rice milk (because I told him first nugget then milk) to the point that his lips became dry and cracked and began to bleed. I actually considered going off the CF/GF diet but upon trying a few nuggets (which he loved from McD's) 3 days later he began crying and tantruming again. I need some diet recommendations from someone else who has a " I would rather starve than eat that! " kid. Help! Trina I make my own chicken nuggets. Very easy and delicious. Guest guest
Hi Trina, Try to get few Mc's chicken nuggets empty containers, and put the GFCF nuggets in them (without him knowing). I would first mix in some of the Mcs nuggets with the new nuggets very gradually and see if he notices. I used to cut up the nuggets for my son and mix different pieces until he got used to the taste and very slowly increase the ratio of the GFCF nuggets to the Mcs nuggets. When all fails, I put ketchup on them HTH, Re: Diet questions > > > > > > I shop at Whole Foods as well for Sammy. Guest guest
--- In Autism Treatment , " " <alishasmom2001@y...> Hi .... I have never had my boys on any special diet although I have read alot about how the GF/CF diet or SCD has shown improvement in autistic children. I know my boys have allergies...everyday they're either sneezing or congested etc...I'm more concerned about food allergies than the other stuff like mold, dust etc...only because I personally wouldn't let my children get shots twice a week for allergies like dust, mold etc..... Guest guest
, my 5 year old autistic son has never been on a special diet, a developmental pediatrician first gave him a diagnosis of PDDNOS but later changed it to Autism Disorder after it was determined he didn't have enough early language to fall into the PDDNOS category. However, he does take dietary food supplements e.g. L-Carnosine, Folic Acid, DMG, B-6/Magnesium and Melatonin (a hormone), which he has all responded very well to (some increased hyperactivity soon after taking the DMG but it doesn't really add to maladaptive behavior). He has become more talkative--increased vocabulary, generalizes more, more alert and he's healthier! My son has seen a GI doctor in the past for constipation problems he developed when he first began potting training. C.Reece
Guest guest
Yes, I too agree. My son stopped stimming and some other unmentionable behaviors that boys do. I gave him mega doses of liquid minerals for a month, and they stopped. I then backed off to a regular dose of liquid minerals. This is just one child, it worked for him, as well as diet interventions. Allie > A reduction in stimming was one of the biggest > improvements we saw from the diet.
