Guest guest
Hi all... I'm sure by now most of you know that I had my surgery 8 weeks. myotomoy with a partial wrap. I've been doing much better the last 2 weeks but today I had some trouble swallowing. This was the first day that things seem to get stuck. Anyone else find they have days like that after surgery? I'm a little nervous that it's going to come back full force! Debbie in NJ
Guest guest
Debbie - I have had some "stickage" all along. I think I have zero peristalsis. I just drink & it goes down. I am able to drink more now, which helps, too. But I would still put myself at a 90% improvement. Cindi
Guest guest
---Thanks Cindi, I know what you mean about the sticking. I've had that too and with a few sips it went down but today was worse than it's been since the surgery. I'm hoping it's just one of those days and tomorrow will be back to the way it was. I am much improved from before the surgery also. I think I will be nervous about eating for the rest of my life. I know I have 0 peristalsis. I was told that after my motility test. It's just gravity taking the food down now. I just don't want to address the possiblity of needing another procedure if things start getting worse. Thanks for aswering so quickly. Guest guest
Hi Debbie, I had the myotomy with a partial wrap well over a year ago, and now and then I feel like I'm having a bit of trouble swallowing. Every time I panic, and sart fretting that it's coming back, but I've learned that you have mostly good days, some bad days, and invariably, with a glass of water you'll have no trouble! All the best, Guy, Melbourne > Hi all... I'm sure by now most of you know that I had my surgery 8 > weeks. myotomoy with a partial wrap. Guest guest
I certainly have anxiety about eating now, too, Debbie. Especially since I can eat more types of foods. For example, I used to love salads, but I have a mental block against them now! lol! I'm working on that. I certainly think stress aggravates it & I also have worse days when I'm under stress. Hang in there & keep a glass of water nearby. Guest guest
---Hi Cindi, That's so funny that you mention salad. I've been hesitant to eat them also. I don't even know why. I had no more trouble with that than I did with anything else before the surgery. The only things I found really hard to swallow were sandwhiches and white meat Chicken. I haven't had that yet and honestly I'm not missing them much. LOL I don't go anywhere without a bottle of water. I've done that for the last 7 years. When I had spasms before (being told it was reflux), drinking water would make it go away immediately. It just became a habit. The water doesn't make them go away anymore but, I would panic without my water bottle. Especially at meal times now. Debbie > I certainly have anxiety about eating now, too, Debbie. Cindi Cindi, Gosh, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has gotten kind of "weird" about not eating things that they used to love. Without any treatment of dysphasia right now, I look at things like salads, fresh fruit and veggies that I used to LOVE and just run in the opposite direction away from them now! The fear of choking on them or them getting stuck is just too real and frightening. Even if I were to be diagnosed with achalasia, had a myotomy, etc., I think for the rest of my life, there will be some types of foods I will probably avoid. Sounds ridiculous, I know. But it just doesn't seem worth worrying about. As long as I'd be (hopefully) able to eat most things I miss, like hamburgers and pizza? Guest guest
I, too have had this difficulty, as has my mother, who also has Lyme. For me, it's as though I sometimes feel uncertain that I will be able to swallow properly - there is a lot of fear and anxiety and it then manifests as being very very conscious of the act of chewing and/or swallowing. It's very creepy, and has gotten better with treatment. I still have it sometimes, but it is few and far between compared to how it was a year ago. I used occassionally choke sometimes, as well. I know that swallowing problems are an issue for Lyme patients as I've seen it on various symptom questionairres. So, hang in there; it should get better with treatment! Guest guest
My son who is 6.5 high functioning PDD-NOS recently developed a trouble swallowing, stating that his throat hurts. He is on various supplements including NDF+ for a natural chelation. A couple of months ago he had a surgery on his head, related to him falling down. His doctor doesn't see anything wrong with his throat and he eats fine yogurts, puddings or any liquid. The problem first appeared after the surgery, but no anywhere near as severe as now and then went away until about a week ago. We are thinking it might be psychological. Did anybody experienced anything similar with their children? Regards, Vitaly
Guest guest
I would look into anything he is ingesting that could be causing acid reflux. Your son's complaints sound alot like those of a friend's child.
