Hi Anita,

It is possible but not usual to get infections because of the accumulated food in the oesophagus. Perhaps you can be a bit more specific - do you have a problem or is this a question because you are wondering if it is possible ?

There is a certain amount of acid produced by the food sitting there and disintegrating and that would help to keep bacteria down. Fungal infections do sometimes happen, but there again this is usually in someone who has a compromised immunity eg. a diabetic or some one on cancer drugs among other things.

If you think you have an infection problems then a visit to your gastroenterologist should put your mind at rest.

Esophagitis

Is it common to get infections in the esophagus because of the large amounts of food in the esophagus? Any information would be appreciated.Anita

Hi Folks,

My eight year old son, nonverbal with autism, was diagnosed yesterday with

Eosinophilic Esophagitis. He cannot swallow much, and a great deal of the food

he tries to eat comes right back up because of the esophagial dysfunction.

Anyone else here deal with this? We used to use enzymes for him and his twin

(also autistic), but quit because of finances. I don't have any idea if enzymes

would be useful for him. This in an allergic an inflammatory condition.

Finding others who deal with would be wonderful.

Thanks,

Deni

Sergiu. Thanks for the reply. I'm on 325 bid. I'm not conviced that aspirin is the culprit. I am experiencing symptom of stricture in my esophagus (dydphagia, spasm, regurg, burping) and no real asprin induced gastritis. I have also been using enteric coated asa. You may be right though. I'm not willing to stop the aspirin just yet. ThanksJim a LOVEOn Jun 19, 2010, at 11:22 AM, Sergiu Labo <sergiu_labo@...> wrote:

Hi JimYour esophagitis is probably caused by the aspirin. How much asp do you take daily?SergiuFrom: Jim <jamesaffinito >Subject: Esophagitis"samters " <samters >Date: Saturday, June 19, 2010, 9:16 PM

Hello all!

One month out from desensitization. Sinus symptoms are nearly gone (SOS is intermitant). However I seem to have developed some kind of esophageal dismotility/inflamation. Also experiencing low grade chest tightness. I have a feeling it might be related to dairy consumtion bit I am not sure. Lots of PPIs and restarting singulair seems to help.

Anyone out there with esophageal problems?

325 g is not enough to cause you these symptoms and added to the fact you're one month through your desens., I'd say no way asa is the cause here.I asked because most of the desens protocols are based on 1300mg/2x/day maintenance dose which IMHO is waaay too much. But every individual is unique and previous health condition/affections can explain the different reactions from one individual to another.SergiuFrom: Jim <jamesaffinito >Subject: Esophagitis"samters " <samters@groups .com>Date: Saturday, June 19, 2010, 9:16 PM

Sergiu, I think you are a little off in your figures. Standard desense is 650mg/2x/day for a total of 1300mg/day. Studies have shown that this is the most effective dose for preventing polyps. People who can't tolerate this are tried on 325 mg 2x day which is somewhat less effective, but causes fewer aspirin related problems. On Jun 19, 2010, at 12:52 PM, Sergiu Labo wrote:

When I wrote 1300mg/2x/day I meant 1300mg per day, twice a day or 1-0-1.From: Jim <jamesaffinito >Subject: Esophagitis"samters " <samters@groups .com>Date: Saturday, June 19, 2010, 9:16 PM
