Hey stroppyfella :)

Three days is pretty much early still. Each day is better and

better, though hard to tell when you live every minute in your body.

For me (5 time surgical case), it can take months to feel just right,

from everything to the tenderness of the scar, to the slight

dizziness or just feeling " off. "

I'm guessing the metallic taste is related to something like residual

anesthesia or side effects from some meds right now. Ask the

pharmacist about your meds, or get the manufacturer insert.

The weeping is normal, and kind of gross when sudden, right? Make

sure you dab beneath the ear with some sterile guaze and keep the

area clean with aneseptic (don't press right on the incision). When

it stops, the ringing might disappear around the same time (it did

for me, so I think it was the fluid pressure). It's not guaranteed

to completely leave, but hopefully won't stick around long.

Afterall, many people have tinnitus for no known reason. There's

quite a bit of healing to happen though...all the nerves and tissue

stops hollering, and the blood stops thumping after a short while.

The fullness and dizziness should subside too.

Best of luck for continued healing...and HUGS. Take care.

Alice,

I am pretty certain that we have taste buds all over our tongue (or maybe

just the upper surface). Maybe you were referring to the side of the brain that

interprets taste.

I have never heard that only those implanted on the right side may have

taste involvement. I know I did , but I am implanted on the right.

Alice,

Doing my right ear. (It's the better ear, by the way, the theory

being that your better residual hearing that you've had all along

affords you a greater chance at success at habilitation after CI

activiation.)

Going to leave my left ear alone, and use a HA on that side (of

course, later that I have a back up hearing aid for that ear, too!).

I'll save that (left) ear for a future bilateral CI.

Hi ,

I was surprised at that too and it's possible that I heard him wrong

as this was before the processor was activated. This is why I

started the poll... out of curiosity. I hope everyone who can will

go to the poll. In these days of political polls, this one should

be a lot more enjoyable. I know that polls don't always come out

accurate but it will be fun to see how this one comes out.

I was implanted on the left side as well and I experienced taste

changes

that lasted about 2 months. I had a metallic taste, but it

eventually went away on it's own.

Hi ! They put so much salt into all the foods so you don't taste the food

anymore. None of the salt is Iodized. It is getting so bad that all you can

taste is cardboard and salt. I went to other countries and when you eat food

there it tastes like the food you are eating. Since they introduced the large

supermarkets into other countries the food is getting worse. It is still not as

bad as the food in the United States. When I get sick with my thyroid and feel

like fainting I eat a few potato chips. I feel better after that. Not all people

are the same. So ask your doctor if you can do that. I am starting an organic

diet. I will let the club know how it comes out. Hope you feel better,

Is this thyroid related?

I've never heard of such, but I have phantosmia; which is phantom

smells. I smell things that are not there.

Abnormal sensory results would normally be caused either by a problem

with the sensory input divice [in your case, taste buds] or a problem

with interpreting the results [by the CNS]. In my case I have not been

able to determine which is the case.

Some of the causes of abnormal taste can be very serious, so for your

peace of mind you should probably have it checked out. You can Google

" abnormal taste " , or check out the link below:

No, it is more an indication of what is in your food. Any sodium

compound will stimulate the salt receptors. Most toxic effects, for

example from heavy metals, will cause a reduction in sensitivity to

sodium, not a heightened sense.

It's funny, because I have been experiencing the

opposite on Armour. I need to add salt to everything.

I started back on Thyrolar a few days ago, and it

seems to be going away.

Do either of you have thrush on your tongue? That can give a salty

taste, even when you're not eating anything at all.

It may be my misunderstanding. The prescription bottle says by

mouth. On a slip of paper titled Sublingual Tablets that came with

the prescription were the directions to take sublingual. I will call

the pharmacy this morning. Thank you for the reply! I thought I was

nuts. It would be next to impossible to take as I did last night.

Hi there,

I think it is the fat that is being burned up in your body. Try some breath mints or may Tic Tac's and see if that helps.

Glad to hear that you are doing better. I guess I never had that taste in my mouth. One time I took some medication that left a awful taste in my mouth (like metal) and anything with mint in it helped me a lot--NO Jr. Mints OK! LOL
