Guest guest
Hi Diane, I was diagnosed with mono at the tender age of 7! Seems many auto immune sufferers have this in their medical history. Guest guest
Hi Happy, I guess I would be the one that is paranoid. Sorry if I upset you. I really didn't mean to. Its just that I live, eat and breathe Lyme. And due to all the politics and unreliable tests, and so many ignorant doctors (to this disease), I just don't trust anything anymore. I know its common for children to get Mono. And I didn't know you were a nurse. Sorry for my paranoia. Good to see you say " as I get better " that is wonderful. Can't wait to start feeling that way. Good luck to you and your son. I recently dealt with " Mono " , but I guess they don't call it that in adults, I had a high EBV titer and boy was I exhausted for a few months. And I couldn't even be within a mile of anyone with so much as a cold, or I'd catch it. As you know, the only thing you really can do, is wait it out and SLEEP, SLEEP, SLEEP. Talk to you soon. Guest guest
Yeah, I was positive for HHV-6 and EBV (same as mono but different Ig tests show whether it's new, active, latent, reactivated etc...) when I was tested, but then again, I was never tested for this stuff before I got REALLYsick. So who knows? Also, I have/had low NK cell counts. This is the only thing that seems to bother my doctor and he feels is clearly related to LD. beth > > Ohhh...lets see....when I first became REALLY sick I was positive for: > Mono > CMV > Ebstein barr (or is that the same is mono? lOL) > cat scratch fever > herpes > chlamydia > Parvo > low t cell count.....was told if a person with AIDS had a count as low as > me, they would be dieing...I said " Oh great, so I just FEEL like I'm > dieing!! > I know there is more but I can't remember...for some reason <g> > > Anita > > > [Lyme-aid] Mono > > > >From: HapsQuilt@... > > > >Carol......thanks for the " heads up " regarding mono. Guest guest
EBV and other virals.... there are TWO non-prescription substances that appear to be very effective: - un-denatured whey (immunepro specifically!) http://www.immunepro.com/ - Olive Leaf Extract (we use east park http://www.eastpark.com ) Both (from experience/studies) are both antivirals and antibiotics. Up attempted to isolate the active ingrediant from Olive Leaf Extract -- and failed to produce a stable marketable form... so the original (health food store) olive leaf extract remains effective... needless to say, since these are not pharamceticals... the drug company agents will not be telling your MD about them... IMHO - you have CFIDS or are pre-definition CFIDS... Guest guest
Hi Steve, I am almost 29, and I've no idea how long I've had mono. As my doctor said, I'm having a bad reoccurence, but I never realized I'd ever had mono before. Though I've read that almost everyone has the Epstein Barr Virus, and I could have even contracted it as an infant or child. But I've been feeling very tired and achy for a long, long time, and I never knew why. I was looking into Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and that's why I wanted the Epstein Barr test, but when they did it, they said that every area of the test was high indicating that I have mono. At least now I know there's a reason why I've been feeling so bad, but I want to start feeling better now. I'm surprised at how the healthcare industry acts like it's no big deal, yet fatigue is the number one complaint doctors receive. I guess they think once you've had mono you're immune to it, but my doctor told me this is the second case she's seen this month of a reoccurrence of mono. So it's not dormant. It can continue to act up, and it's miserable. And who knows how many people this is going on with that haven't been tested. Guest guest
This is an area where the experts disagree so your Dr. may or may not be right about mono. If he is not a Dr. that has a lot of experience with CFS I suggest you find one and get a second option. You also might try a trial of Valtrex or a similar anti viral. My family Dr. thought Epstien Barr causes chronic fatigue & I had high EBV titers. But many Drs. think this is just a cofactor. If you could figure it out you would win the Nobel Prize. So get a second option from a CFS expert. good luck Steve
Guest guest
Hi , Yes, that dreaded Glandular Feeling I know only too well. I don't know how long I've had Glandular Fever/mono for. I was diagnosed with it last year. It took my GP too long to come up with this explanation and the test for it. It has never been recommended to me to go on steroids and I wouldn't take them - however I don't know what your situation is so I wouldn't want to presume anything here. I do get little bouts of glandular fever from time to time and I just listen to my body and rest - and the sore throat - I have found that colloidal silver seems to knock it on the head everytime I get one. There is also a place in England that sells this product which has herbal extracts in it - I didn't order it or take it as I am a great believer in letting your own body do the work. Since the worst of it is well and truly behind me, I haven't taken this product. I can't remember all its details - but I'll just go and search the web for you now and tell you the website etc very soon. I'm sure there is a link between Glandular Fever and Candida - maybe the body is in an environment that promotes these two things. Go and get some sleep and I'll get the website! Taiaroa. Mono Does anyone here have mononucleosis? Last night I had a touchy throat and it got worse as the night wore on. I felt nauseous on and off and was getting acid reflux (great for a sore throat eh!) on and off also. By the time I got up this morning, my throat was raging sore and I could hardly talk: it hurt too much. Eating and drinking was definitely out of the question. I tried to go to work, but after an 1/2 hour I could hardly stand up. Mum and I went home and I went to the doctor. I was certain I developed strep throat, since I get that a lot it seems. The doctor performed a throat culture and told me that it came back negative for strep. He did a blood test under the idea that I've possibly contracted mononucleosis. He mentioned that lots of young people get it. I've got allergy testing in Ottawa with my candida doctor and I'm hoping that I haven't got mono because it may mean that I'd have to go to the hospital to go on steroids. I've been waiting for this appointment in Ottawa (a 6 hour drive!) forever and I hate to cancel it because I'd be going on meds for mono. Has anyone here had mono or know anyone who has? Could anyone offer me some idea of what I could face if I do have it? Dr said that he'd get back to me tomorrow sometime *if* the test comes back positive. Until then, I'm nervous. I've heard that going on steroids can come back to haunt you a year after the fact.Blessed be, :)aim Avalonian Mistaol Northern Rosebudicq 15463404msn shalott76Send blank message to candidiasis-unsubscribeonelist if you want to UNSUBSCRIBE ! Guest guest
Hi , Here are some really useful websites for treatment of mono - all of them are based on natural/herbal remedies. 'Intra' is the name of the product from England but I can't seem to find it on the net at present - however the second website I have listed mentions the use of intra. http://www.egregore.com/diseases/mononucleosis.html http://www.gail.swinternet.co.uk/index.html http://www.glandularfever.com/ Hope this helps! . Guest guest
Kathy, I am a bit surprised he didn't give you an antibiotic to protect you from any infections you might incure with the mono. But with being only on immuran for three weeks, it is most likely you were exposed before you started or just after, so I don't beleive your meds or AIH had anything to do with it - they wouldn't have been supressing the immune system too much yet at the time you were exposed. If I remember correctly mono can take from two to four weeks to incubate before symptoms arise, which means you were likely exposed just before you started the meds. Of course I am no doctor, but that is what I know of the immuran, pred and mono. Prednisone works a bit faster, but does not suppress the immune system as much as the immuran in the long run. But again, I am guessing your exposure to mono was just coincidence, and had nothing to do with you meds. BUT! With you still going on on immuran and prednisone, you do need to watch out for secondary infections. Because now your body won't fight the mono as it would have with your normal immune system. So If you find your self not improving in a couple of weeks, or getting worse and worse, go back to the doc - you will probably need an antibiotic. Remember you know what is right and what is wrong with your own body. If you get worse and are scared by it don't think twice about getting back to the doc. Take care and I hope you are feeling better soon. Oh! Almost forgot. You will fight infection much differently than you are used to too. I have had many a flu and cold in the five years I have been on these drugs. I never get as sick as my family does, but then they only suffer with symptoms for three, four days tops. I will have lower grade symptoms for weeks. It is a pain in the butt. But watch for those tell tale signs of infection. Fever is bad, bad, bad when you are on immuran. Also if you are getting the green mucous get to the doc, or you will be suffering a sinus infection the likes of which you have never seen. Hope I have helped. Love, Carole
Guest guest
Hi Everyone, My grandson needs help fast. He is in first year of college and staying in dorms in city where he lives and was diagnosed with Mono last week. He is sick a lot anyway with allergies and such and was doing construction work for a remodeler and last Wed he was work with polyurethane and came down with a horrible headache (it does the same thing to me) and than became very tired and the University Dr. diagnosed him with Mono yesterday. He is so tired that he can't go to classes. I bought him 3- 6 pks of liquid drink with vitamins and a bottle of multivitamins so as to get a little nutrition into him because he will just lay there and not eat at all. Question: I have an old prescription of Valtrex that gave me a headache so still have, shouldn't he be taking an anti-viral? His older sister had Mono years ago and she has CFS now and am afraid it will happen to him. He probably wouldn't take them anyway since the Dr. didn't prescribe anything but just told him that the worse symptoms would be over in about a week and that he should take it easy for about 6 weeks. Thanks, H.
Guest guest
Hello unless mono has changed it sure lasted alot longer than a week for me and took me a whole year after the worst symptoms pased till my body got back to normal and set me up for getting cfids....pretty common to get it in college .. he probably needs alot more bed rest more than anything and some time off from school...... If he goes back to any kind of constrution work he needs to invest in a high powered mask to protect himself from chemicals he works/exposed to. if i did it over again i should have stayed out from school alot longer than i did , i got ansy being home and went back to work and then school soon after that...dumb....in retrospect.. will the antiviral strain his sytem and ? prevent him from using it later if he needs it... good luck to u all tealk. > [Original Message] > From: <helenw8262@...> > < > > Date: 4/13/2004 9:14:43 PM > Subject: Re: Mono > > Hi Everyone, > > My grandson needs help fast. Guest guest
Aggressive rest is crucial, I believe. I did not rest when I had mono, and 20 years later I am still paying for it. My girlfriend had mono at the same time, rested for nearly a year, and she is fine now. Jim
Guest guest
mary i think the first thing you might want to find out is how they diagnosed him.. but there are probably alot of things you could do. some people are using isoprinosine which helps strengthen the body's immune response to viurses. www.isoprinosine.com also there is lauricidin which a natural antiviral. www.lauricidin.com olive leaf extract, transfer factor.....there are alot. as for vlatrex, i think it needs to be high doses inorder to work against EBV. you'll probably need to find a DR to prescribe it and monitor him because i don't really know much about safety issues. please feel free to ask me any questions, and keep posting because now is the time to nip this thing in the bud. thanks bill > Hi Everyone, > > My grandson needs help fast. Guest guest
I suspect a good number of us, have had a viral exposure at one time that contributes to our poor metabolic function. I had scarlet fever, mono as a child, and now hep c. My younger brother, who is also being treated for thyroid problems recently found out that he too has hep c. I believe my youngest brother does too, just by looking at him, but he hasnt been tested yet. My mother is going to get tested now to see if she may have passed it on to us. (she has had thyroid issues for years, and a great deal of cardiovascular difficulty, primarily plaque) It is suspected that I got it at age 13 when I had my appendix out, but who can be sure. There is a man I work with who has had trouble with his thyroid function, and now diabetes who found out two years ago that he too has Hep C. This explains why T4 alone does not help me much..I obviously have a conversion problem because of my liver. My doctor however will not let me have any T3. She believes it to be too dangerous. Considering many viruses lay dormant in us for many years, it is possible that many of us could have them and not know.
