Guest guest
We had the same thoughts with my grandaughter. (Almost 6, HFA). We didn't try the diet because of the same reason. We do find chocolate makes her more hyper, so we limit it, also anything with red dye. We did the DMG from Kirkman labs. Overall I think the Speech, OT, keeping her with typically devel. kids. She learns from others. She had ABA for a short time and that really got her started. She didn't talk until she was 3. Now her speech is good , but she talks like a 4yr .old. She relates to younger children better than her own age. She does very good. She starts school this year in Reg. Kindergarten.
Guest guest
Hi, Just wanted to share that I had Madelyn on the diet for a year (strict) and she began to walk and talk. Then I reintroduced gluten products slowly since she didn't seem to have much of a prob with them (except for oats). She now will eat dairy on rare occasions when she asks for it, but I do notice her temper is worse when she has it. She certainly is a lot better than she used to be though. I just don't over do anything. Just reintroduce slowly and keep tabs on behavior, etc. Too much sugar is a huge problem as well. Creates yeast (yuk!) Garlic combats this problem, but it's also good to remove products containing corn syrup and other such " fillers " and sweetners from the diet. They're just bad news. My daughter loves rice milk and eats lots of fruits and protien. Hope this helps! Jayne

Guest guest
Hi, We tried the diet strictly for one year and saw no change either. My daughter never had any gastrointestinal problems so she probably wasn't a good candidate.Be prepared,it was tough to get her back to regular food !!! She ate soy cheese pizzas for a month after we officially quit. Good Luck, Jo
Guest guest
We did the diet for 9 months and did not see any significant improvement. Not enough to say the diet did it. has continue to improve slowly without the diet so any improvement we figure was not the diet. Guest guest
When we started the gfcf diet originally we saw some results but were a little disappointed that her behavior wasn't much better. We then took her to get a blood draw to test food allergies/sensitivities (ELISA). The results of this test showed that in addition to gluten and casien, there were 20 other foods she was reacting to -- big ones that we'd been using as supplements to the stuff we eliminated! (eggs, soy, peanuts, citrus fruits, bananas, etc). So once we elminated all that from her diet, we saw a much greater improvement. Have you had your daughter tested at all? I'm not saying that the diet will help everybody, but it won't do as much good as it can if there are still " bad " foods in her system. I'm considering doing just that--partly because one of our doctors, who is also our ABA consultant, said that the diet helps only about 3% of autistic children, and partly because in the nearly 2 years we've been following the diet, we haven't seen any huge changes. My daughter is 5(HFA). We've tried SuperNuThera, enzymes, GFCF diet, and I'm not convinced that anything other than the ABA has really worked. I'd appreciate any input into my dilemna! Thanks:)
Guest guest
> We did get some testing done--hair analysis to test for metals (negative, but we did the chelation anyway), and some blood tests. That particular doctor recommended the probiotics and plant enzymes--those seemed to help a little. However, we just couldn't afford to do the ELISA ($350-- I live in Canada & that test is not covered by insurance.) Do you know of any other tests that might serve the same purpose, but are a little cheaper? Guest guest
No, I don't really know any test that's the same. We did pay about $350 but were lucky that insurance paid for most of it! Guest guest
Do you give the biofilm enzyme every night? I thought it was a specific protocol. We dumped the diet years ago when Houston came out with their enzymes. Even when you are on the diet, so many other food issues come up. It never ends. It is easier to just do enzymes, eat normally, and work on correcting the reason your gut is not tolerating these foods than try to remove them. > > We have been on the diet for a year. Currently doing candex, a biofilm enzyme, and GSE at night. Will going off the diet effect the job we are doing to trying to get rid of the yeast? Depends on what you feed him. Too many carbs, starches, and/or sugars will increase yeast, no matter what " diet " or lack of diet you are doing. Dana
