Independent learning with an aide in public school

Hello-

I'm new to this group, have a 7 yo boy in 2nd grade diagnosed at 5 with

Asperger's and ADD. He has been in public school, regular ed classroom with a

one-on-one aide since first grade, mostly to help him with attention/focus,

though his fine motor skills are very weak so she helps with scribing, also

takes him on " sensory breaks " . I have just requested " data collection " so I can

understand 1) what is he able to do independently 2) what does he need tons of

help with. For the stuff he needs lots of help with, what would help him be more

independent? (modification of assignment, assistive technology, behavioral

approach i.e. timer or other motivator, training him how to break down

assignment into manageable segments). I've been slow to realize the school

district's special services department should already have this data

collection/monitoring/problem solving in place and it disturbs me that they

don't and are now looking to me for guidance on what I would like to see. Surely

that wheel has already been invented? I am hoping someone out there could point

me in the direction of a school district who knows how to effectively monitor

one-on-one aides in the classroom such that the students are actually learning

how to gradually become more independent.
