Guest guest
Do you know what’s going on in this “little world” that she’s in? Einstein was in his own little world. He was such a space cadet that he got kicked out of a school for not paying attention. When he was spacing out, he apparently was pondering the mysteries of the universe. What if somebody had medicated that out of him? When I “spaced out,” I was thinking of stories I wanted to write or cartoons I wanted to draw when I got home. Please, consider those possibilities before you jump on the medication bandwagon. Even if medication were to work (which I doubt, as hyperfocus on an interest is different than washing your hands for 10 minutes), you may be hurting more than helping your daughter. I am curious to know what she’s hyperfocused on. Guest guest
Well said, . A couple of our kids were obsessed adn hyperfocused on different things over the years, but meds didn't enter in for Ian until his obsession turned to religion and we feared for his well-being. Honestly feared for him mental stability. If the obsession affects his safety and / or health or that of others........time to do something. BUt,,,,,,,,,being annoying (mine were...he he) or messy (diddo) is a fine line, I guess. We chose to let them be the way they were and not medicate. We tried to remind ourselves that, like you stated, there is a reason for lots of it. And most of the time, no harm. Attack and enjoy every minute of life. Try everything.....protect everything. Robin I recently gave in and added an antidepressant (lexapro) to my daughters meds. it has made a world of difference in her over obsession and over focused world of having to get certain things done.
