Guest guest
I sure hope sassafras is OK! The name of our farm here in middle TN is " Sassafras Springs Farm " b/c there are so many sassafras trees all over it. We love to pull up some saplings by the roots and make ourselves an occasional batch of tea--tastes like root beer! We sweeten it with stevia. in TN > > i'm having a hard time finding out if these to herbs/teas are ok. > > anyone know? >
Guest guest
I have never tried it (and don't like root beer) but on the kefir list they have discussed how to make a " root beer soft drink " by fermenting water with water kefir grains and doing a secondary fermentation with sassafras. I understand that it gets bubbly and tastes like root beer. Millie
Guest guest
If you added a little cinnamon, cloves, and coriander (I think... would have to check my recipe on the coriander), it would add more authentic root beer taste. But chopping up the sassafras is a bit cumbersome.MaureenI have never tried it (and don't like root beer) but on the kefir list they have discussed how to make a "root beer soft drink" by fermenting water with water kefir grains and doing a secondary fermentation with sassafras. Guest guest
Hi Maureen, Yes, please, send that root beer recipe along if you can find it. It's a good one for me to make the kids one of these days. Btw, when I first came from Cuba (and used to only things like coconut water), they gave me a cup of root beer at camp on a hot hot day. I nearly threw up, ugh! But I understand that the nonforeigners like these sort of drinks ; ) ask your Cuban husband if he grew up with it.
