Guest guest
As a mother of an asperger/bipolar/odd/ocd, I have to say that I understand your stance on medications. But as a mother without the medications my son takes he could not function so please don't think they aren't helping him. Do you take care of this child? just wondering. My son didn't get the chance to start ABA until he was 9 yrs old. It is a service offered through the military called ECHO. The few years he spent with his ABA therapist in Texas really did make a tremendous difference in his everyday life. It helped him with social skills, behavior modifications, confidence levels, pragmatic skills. But these are things we work on everyday of his life. Eye contact is still a big issue when he talks to other people. I do praise the ABA therapist she is a dream with these children. From: Anne P <twomaps@...>Subject: ( ) ABA Therapy for an 11 year old Date: Tuesday, February 16, 2010, 8:09 PM Hi, I always thought that ABA therapy was for young children, especially preschoolers. My grandson has Aspergers, probably. I say this because he has been diagnosed as a lot of things, PDD-NOS and now they are saying Bi-polar. I have recently becaome a line therapist for ABA (in another state) and I am thinking that my grandson may not be Bi-polar, but just uses his anger and fits to retreat and get left alone. (it works!) I hate all the meds they are trying on him to see what works, however it isn't my choice. I am wondering if anyone knows if ABA can be a free service in upstate NY and if anyone can give me contact information. My grandson goes to special ed, but I don't think they know how to handle him and he is falling through the cracks. Everyone just wants to drug him to make him behave. Is there anyone on here from the Syracuse/Rochester area that can help me with a little information on who to contact. I can only pass this info on, but can't make it be used, but I would like to at least try. Thanks!------------------------------------
