Guest guest
Hi, My son was a ASD/ADHD diagnosis. When he was first diagnosed the developmental pediatrician, neurologist and pediatic psychologist all recommended I put him on meds because they insisted his ADHD would be more detrimental than his ASD. He was only 3 1/2 at the time...I went the biomedical route and saw great improvements, not only in the ASD but especially in the ADHD...the change in diet really made a difference in his focus/attention and his hyperactivity. I took all processed foods away, all dyes,he is on a casein free/ gluten free/ egg free diet ( he has egg intolerance/allergies) and I limit his sugar. Where I can replace sugar with Stevia I do....He is also really good with Agave as a sweetener. I keep it as organic as possible....It luckily has really helped my kid. It has gotten so that if he eats anything with artificial sweeteners, or sneaks a soda or drinks with dyes & sweeteners, we can tell immediately because he gets that hyper rush, glazed look and it' becomes difficult for him to process.......He is now 10, and in an inclusion class setting...Diet for us was a big thing.....also GABA in my kid happened to help calm & focus...... (we do the vitamin supplements too) Hope it helps, good luck! From: cheleta9178@... My 2 year old has autism and is doing great on biomedical treatments. My DAN prescribed pills for my 9 year olds ADHD, when I thought we were going to do the whole supplements thing and testing. I was shocked, and am having a very difficult time dealing with the fact meds will be apart of daily life. Guest guest
Diet is huge for many kids. The Feingold diet works fantastic for some. Just eliminating artificial colors/flavors/preservatives can do it for some kids. Other kids need GF/CF/SF/etc. Giving CLO regularly has been proven to be as effective as most meds after three months and I'd much prefer to be dosing my kid CLO rather than prescription speed. hth, Janelle

Guest guest
My daughter is in line with the ADHD spectrum.  I did not have her labeled as such through the routine M.D. route (evaluation for ADHD) I already knew by her symptoms and struggles in the classroom.  I am going the route of bio - med.  My research of this subject of ADHD led me back to autism for recovery.  Some believe that ADHD and Autism are different and other no. What I see is is a myriad of problems that both autism and adhd kids can both suffer from. My observations have been with children in my daughters class and friends, countless of research papers on the subject of adhd and blogsites. One boy (in my daughter's class) was led away from autism (recovered)  by his parents using bio-med intervention. He has some sensory issues the same as my daughter and some issues they have in common such as gut issues. He cannot eat wheat ...my daughter is phenol sensitive. The boy was chelated for mercury and I could see him get better.  I just got hair tests results back for the whole family. My husband and I both meet the counting rules for Andy Cutler's book on hair analysis for mercury toxicity. My daughters hair test is suspicious looking but did not meet the counting rules for mercury toxicity. I will most likely have a urine porphyrin test done next. She just began to see a DAN Dr. in our area. He knows more about treating autism but is willing to work with me regarding her issues.  We had our daughter evaluated by a neurodevelopmentalist and we having been doing a myriad of sensory exercises, visual exercises, sound therapy also. This has improved her condition. I won't go into all her problems here.  Now I'm attacking the metabolic issues - we tried the Feingold diet first...and this is how I found out she was phenol/salicylate sensitive. I saw another level of improvement of improvement. I think finding the roots of the problem is the permanent fix. Meds are just a band-aid fix. It does break my heart to see these kids suffer so ....but be encouraged...I believe bio-med is the way to go....I'm doing it and I am seeing much improvement in her compared a year ago. Just look at the autistic kids being recovered...surely, the ADHD kids can be also!  From: Cheleta <cheleta9178@...> Subject: [ ] ADHD HELP Date: Thursday, January 14, 2010, 3:13 PM  Good Morning Everyone, I know this group is for autism, but yesterday my 9 year old was diagnosed with ADHD/but more ADD. Guest guest
Even more than the GFCFSF diet (that we have followed 3 1/2 years and continue), the Feingold diet (avoiding salycylates -- spelled that wrong, I know) as well as artificial flavors and colors has helped my ADHD boy tremendously. However, EVEN more than the diets, Inositol and olive leaf extract (OLE) have made most of his ADHD and oppositional behaviors go away. He is unable to tolerate enzymes. I know his gut has healed substantially because, after years of refusing to eat most kinds of meat, he is now asking for it and enjoying it, with no ill effects (behavioral or intestinal). I hope this helps. Hi, Sorry but I need to ask a very basic question. What does 'biomedical' or 'biomed' mean? My son has ADHD & I put him on GFCFSFEF diet for the past 3 - 4 months. Therefore without the bread, he tends to eat more rice or food made with rice flour for his meals. So far, besides having a better appetite, I do not see any improvement in terms of behaviour & concentration. So I'd like to try out from what some of you are doing, in the 'biomed' way.. He's on Houston's TriEnza enzymes occasionally too.. recently I started giving him Nature's Answer's Ginkgo & Planetary's Calm Child. So far, no big difference that I notice.. Many thanks for any advice.. HY
Guest guest
For my son I found the best results with probiotics. " yum yum dophillus " is the name the company is jarrows  for kids was the one I found the best results. Whole foods sells them.  Also, check make sure her diet is not too high in omega 6 and low in omega 3. I found switch from margine type butters which is all veg oil and switching back to butter helped in the cause. Also, once he started on the probiotics I noticed he started to crave meats(omega 3) more. Of course they threw her on meds right away and I did try that out but stopped them for one because they were very expensive and also I didn't feel they helped. My daughters problems are mainly lack of focus, forgetfulness, and no follow through. I am just wondering what supplement I could get her that would help with this.
