Guest guest
Don't ever give ALA once a day. It IS a chelator! If you give it you have to give it every three hours around the clock (4 at night) for three or more days. Barb [ ] ALA My son is 5 and has been on NCD for the past few months he has recently had a hair test which showed high levels of various metals we have started to give him MethylB12 and a compound of various supplements including 100mg per day of ALA in an attempt to get him to get rid of these metals on his own before possible chelation I am a bit concerned that the ALA may deposit any mercury that he may have back into the brain can someone please offer some advice? Guest guest
Kirkman sells 25mg - as does vitamin shoppe. ALA is not really hard to find in 25mg, so you can check with your local vitamin store/health food store too. Guest guest
I am also starting ALA with my 3.5 yr old, his weight is 16kg. Going by AC protocol, its 1mg per Kg, so I should be giving 16mg per dose? If given 3-4 hourly, I should give 16mg per dose or 16mg divided by the number of times given in 24 hours? Guest guest
Kirkman Labs' ALA is made in Germany, which gives me some confidence. HOWEVER - be sure to ask for " Hypoallergenic Formula " when ordering it, or it will contain artificial sweeteners and other fillers you'd probably rather not have. Guest guest
AC protocol is 1/8 to 1/4 mg per lb to start. You can go up 1/2mg per pound later on. 16mg is too high to start with. > > > > > I am starting ALA with my son and am looking for a place to buy it. I > > > need 25mg capsules/pills. Guest guest
Hi, May I know when is 'later on'? converting his weight to pounds, that's 35 lb. Would 9mg per dose sound reasonable? tks On Thu, Jan 1, 2009 at 11:46 PM, michellebondy <myrubygirl@...> wrote: > AC protocol is 1/8 to 1/4 mg per lb to start. Guest guest
I would actually start even lower than that. My daughter is around 40lbs and I had to start her at 1.5mg for the first few rounds. I started her at 6.25mg and it was too much. She's at 5mg now and I am working her up to 6mg over the next couple of weeks. It's best to start low. When my daughter was too high she was just horrible and I've heard people say that too high of a dose gave them a major headache. By 'later on' I just mean to raise the dose slowly over time. Stay at one dose for a while if it's working and you're seeing improvement. > > > > > > > > > I am starting ALA with my son and am looking for a place to buy > > it. Guest guest
Not sure where to 25 mg ALA. I get 50 mg or 100 mg (and split them) at WFM. My husband got me a capsule filler for Christmas. I'm waiting for an order of size " 0 " veg capsules to come in at the Co-Op. The box says one can fill 25 capsules in a couple minutes. Guest guest
Our daughter is also 16 kg (35 pounds) and the most we have been able to work up to after 15 rounds is about 8 mg each of DMSA and ALA per dose. Personally, we tried starting at 1/8 mg per pound (about 4mg) DMSA only for round 1 and it was too much (uncontrollable crying by the end of the round) so dropped it to about 2 mg per dose and have worked up from there. We didn't add ALA until Round 8. I feel that it is better to start very low and work up than to start higher and have negative side effects. Guest guest
It's not easy, but you have to pour the capsule out and divide it up. I usually take a 50mg capsule and spread it out in a line. Then I split that into two 25mg piles and separate that into 12.5mg lines. Then I split those up into 6.25mg lines. Then I make up a 5mg bunch from the 6.25mg lines. I do it mostly by eye and it's not exact but it works. You can have them compounded at a pharmacy into small doses. But I was a Pharmacy tech for a few years a long time ago so I've done this before. But, I used a scale when I did this as a job. I'm sure my daughter's doses aren't exactly 5mg, but they are close enough for me. > > > > > > > > > > > > > I am starting ALA with my son and am looking for a place to buy > > > > it. Guest guest
How we do it: you can order 25mg ala from Kirkman Labs. I have found 30 mg online but that's the lowest. If you want 5mg, take five identically sized empty capsules, open them. Set the lids aside. Then you are going to take the 25mg ala and carefully open it, and pour equal amounts into the five empty caps. You can fill them rest of the space with magnesium or vitamin C or whatever..or leave it empty. Put the caps on. Vouwahlah! 5mg capsules and no compouding pharmacy fee. We are up to 16mg now so I take a 50mg ala and divide it into three same size capsules..actually two others, because I use the original cap of ala as the third, just pouring some out into the empties. Easier than lines, or credit cards or trying to scoop the stuff back into the caps. Amazing how you " evolve " new methods after three years...I am always looking to make it easier if I can...hope that helps. Another tip: it's easier if you measure out all the dose for the whole round at one time and put them in a baggy. Andy says the timing is more important than the exact dose, so what is said below is fine, even if it ends up being off .5 a mg or something like that. So dividing evenly by eye is fine. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I am starting ALA with my son and am looking for a place > to buy > > > > > it. I > > > > > > > > need 25mg capsules/pills. Guest guest
Most health food stores sell empty capsules. Open a 25 mg capsule, divide the contents into 5 approximately equal piles (eyeball it, doesn't have to be exact) for the 5 mg. S S Re: ALA Posted by: " Jan " mercurybabies2@... mercurybabies2 Thu Jan 1, 2009 7:11 pm (PST) www.iherb.com sells capsule machines. I wanted to get one, but I'm not sure how I'd be sure that each cap was getting only 16mg rather than being full and having 25mg. ....didn't seem a way to regulate the amount per cap,(please let me know if this works differently than I think...because it would be a Godsend it if does) Say I want to fill size 0 caps with 16mg of ala and 25mg dmsa.... I'd put ala into the machine and run the spreader across, but how would I be sure that each cap only got 16? Other than by eye?
