Guest guest
Thanks I totally agree From: cmt263 <gina9431@...> Sent: Thu, January 13, 2011 11:35:15 AMSubject: ( ) Re: ADHD,AS,AUTISM? I don't know that it has as much to do with the label as it does with how their disability is "affecting them academically". My son has received the same services for sld and autism spectrum. I got the impression everyone on th spectrum is labels autism spectrum with our school. I have only gotten more services when my son hs proved that his disability is affecting him academically. I still think it is good to get the asd label for future need, but in my experience it is more important to prove his disability is hindering his learning than to fight for any label! Guest guest
I agree with you because you will spend (waste) too much time fighting for the label instead of an appropriate life skill strategy for your child. I would still make sure the right label is somewhere on the IEP tho then fight for the proper service that will help your child. that's where my focus would be - on what the child needs are. Guest guest
Thank you, that's what I needed to hear cathleen From: bbrogoitti <bbrogoitti@...> Sent: Thu, January 13, 2011 4:08:44 PMSubject: ( ) Re: ADHD,AS,AUTISM? In Oregon, Autism gets WAY more of everything. If you put ADHD on the list at all, it's like asking to have all the doors shut in your face - as though ADHD doesn't (all by itself) interfere with their ability to learn (if you can't sit still and focus, how do you absorb the lesson?).Getting the autism team on board has been a whole different world for us!>> Hello everyone,> > this post is coming a little late. Guest guest
Hi , MY advocate referred me to Mt Helix. They have a program called AIM high. we are touring the school this am, so i can tell you what it's like. Yes they deal with HFA, AS, ADHD, OHI, SLD. LD, as well as some others. They don't do the very severe cases, they have another school for that. please feel free the e-mail me direct. Do you want to meet up sometime? I'm always looking for support groups. Where in SD are you exactly. I'm alway willing to drive. Cathleen From: C. <chrislaine66@...> Sent: Tue, January 18, 2011 7:58:51 PMSubject: ( ) Re: ADHD,AS,AUTISM? Does the private school you're considering specialize in kids with learning disabilities? How did you find it? I'm in San Diego north county, so I'm curious about your situation.>> Thank you Roxanna.
