Guest guest
Do they have more than one teacher at his grade level? If they have more than one teacher at his grade level... call an emergency meeting with the Principal and tell him you want Hunter switched immediatly !! From: <moien@...>Subject: ( ) I'm confused...mad...not sure what to do Date: Thursday, February 11, 2010, 9:54 AM I'm sorry if this repeats somethings I've already said.Hunter hates his school. Plain and simple. No official diagnosis as of yet for Asperger's.We live in a town of 200 people. The closest town is where he goes to school - 6 miles away. No other districts will take him on open enrollment because of his IEP. They aren't staffed enough. So, first he was expelled for 1.5 days for being at a lunch table that had students calling each other gay. He reported it to principal, and the other kids said he was saying it too. All of these kids are tired of Hunter, and while he swears he didn't say anything, we will never truly know. Then on his first day back from suspension, in reading class it was noisy and he was stressed because they wanted him to take a test that now he didn't know abouot, because he wasn't there the day before! He asked to go to the SPED room. They didn't let him, teacher pulled him out into the hall, told him he should be reborn as a nice boy and made him go back to class. Again, Hunter asked to leave, teacher pulled him into the hall and said he needed to knock it off, grow up, and take the test. Hunter says he then said "Leave me alone!" and went to the office. Teacher says Hunter said "screw you!" and went to the office. Either way, 3 days suspension. 1. I don't have an alternative placement for him. I have to work, I just happen to be mostly laid off and seeking another job because we can't survive without 2 paychecks. 2. They didn't follow his IEP.3. I haven't heard about a manifestation meeting yet.4. November IEP meeting included starting OT again, it still hasn't been. 5. Oh yeah, report card time. He went from straight A's 1st Semester to 2 F's, 2 D's, and the rest C's on this report card. Did I get a phone call his grades were dropping? No! One of his F's is in gym class because he wasn't dressing so they didn't let him participate. Again, no one bothered to call me. 6. South Dakota's education system stinks!!!!!Our case with state advocacy was closed in January. I'm still waiting for them to call me bacck to get me yet another advocate. that system is messed up too. I guess I'm just so aggravated. i wish i didn't havce to work so I could homeschool. But i do. I think it's making me feel like a failure as a parent. Anti-depressants are coming my way soon. Thanks for listening. in SD------------------------------------
Guest guest
He's in 6th grade - middle school. They stay in the same room and have different teachers for each subject. I wish I had that option to switch a teacher, I sure would! > > > From: <moien@...> > Subject: ( ) I'm confused...mad...not sure what to do > > Date: Thursday, February 11, 2010, 9:54 AM > > > I'm sorry if this repeats somethings I've already said. > Hunter hates his school. Guest guest
, given you and your husband's work schedules, how often can you call and IEP meeting? My suggestion is to make it more expensive and painful for the school to not do what you want than to just do it. Schedule IEP meetings every week or every other week. At the ending of one IEP meeting, schedule the next one before everyone leaves. At these meetings you can ask for updates on grades, compliance with the IEP parameters, and updates on the things that the IEP measures. Also, ask to have lots of people at these meetings- like the district principal for student services, the district child psychologist, etc. Make your disatisfaction obvious to the higher ups and expensive for the school. At these meetings, take extensive notes. Reggi Levinreggi@...
