GABA works well for vertigo for me, and a bit for anxiety, but after a few days I tend to get a little depressed. 5htp works better. I still use GABA when I get vertigo. Guest guest
I started my boys on 5HTP. Their DAN suggested 150mg to help them with focus and also to help them be able to sleep through the night. Melatonin helped them get to sleep and 5HTP helped them to stay asleep. Their focus is some better to but they still have issues with that. Guest guest
My son does not tolerate melatonin, but 5htp works well to do the same thing for him. I give 50mg 5htp before bed. Caryn Reid
Guest guest
My son has been on 5-HTP the last week and we have seen a decrease in his OCD behaviors. We are on a low dose of 16mg/day. We did twice the current dose last fall and the OCD went down but my son exhibited silly behaviors that were as bad as the OCD. Dave > > Has anyone put their child on this supplement? Guest guest
Thanks, is. I have only upped their dosage to 100mg. Had not moved it to the 150 yet. I will hold of on this. Maybe even bump it back down to the 50 they started with. They weigh in the mid 30 pounds. Guest guest
I've added it for my son and it so far really seems to help even out his mood. (He's 16.) He seems much calmer and a little happier. I haven't heard you're not supposed to use for more than a month. What happens? (I've heard you're not supposed to stop it suddenly.) I just thought I was on to something good. Is there long-term use consequence with this? Guest guest
We just added it last week to help with numerous night time wakings and sensory issues. So far we haven't had any bad reactions. Although, I keep seeing that one should not take it for more than a month at a time? Also, I've heard it can help with mood, food cravings, which would be nice for us parents. I'm in a big search for 5HTP info, too. > > anyone have a bad reaction to 5HTP? >

He would get very aggressive and wanting to fight and then in tears after the episodes. I recently added the 5HTP and have noticed he's been pretty calm and his moods have been pretty even the last couple of weeks. So far so good! (No outbursts!) He used to have pretty big sleep problems...stay up until 11:00 or later and then would get up everyday between 5:00 am and 5:30 am seven days a week all year long. The last few months or so..he's now acting like a typical teenager and loves his sleep. I have no idea what made the switch in him to be honest. Guest guest
We have been using taurine for abouat 3 weeks now to calm my son and we think it has helped some. But my DAN today suggested adding GABA and then 5HTP. Have any of you had experience with this and should I give them at different times of the day? Thanks so much! Guest guest
we do 5-htp, it has been very helpful for my son, calming, less repetitive vocal stimming, less anxiety. My son is 4, wieghs 37 lbs, per our DAN we started with 50mg for one month, then 100mg for a month, then 150 which is the dose we stay at.Each time I raised the dose my son had a little vomiting for one night. Yes, it's ok to be on it for more than one month.I give it in his night time supps. It can raise one of the levels in the OAT, making it look like something is worse than it is, I want to say arginine but I'm probably wrong. I like 5-htp.It is tryptophan, the stuff that makes you sleepy after turkey. It is is a precursor to seratonin. We have no negatives. I do know that you should not stop it abruptly. i think the biggest mistake people make with it is to not go high enough, they assume at lower doses they are not getting benefit. I use two brands; Natural Creations and Integrative Therapuetics. Alison M Re: [ ] Re: 5HTP I've added it for my son and it so far really seems to help even out his mood. (He's 16.) Guest guest
Is anyone using 5HTP to keep their child asleep? My son wakes up at 5am. If so, at what dosage?
Guest guest
That post was simply lifted from Wikipedia, which is rife with false information. And yes, the claim about hypertension is just as false. Here is a source with a clinical that showed 5HTP LOWERS blood pressure. The title of this article is " 5HTP-- Myth or Miracle? " Following are two excerpts: >Within these articles there was little to no mention of the effects of >5-HTP on heart disease. However, in a clinical trial Schwarcz, Young, >and Brown (1989) performed, there was evidence to show that 5-HTP combined >with a diet high in carbohydrates does lower blood pressure. >I can confidently say 5-HTP will provide benefits with regard to >depression, blood pressure and minimal weight loss. http://www.vanderbilt.edu/AnS/psychology/health_psychology/5htp_myth.htm While this short article is limited and is not a full description of the abilities of 5HTP to help us, it does provide this info on blood pressure. So even if you didn't want to eat a diet high in carbohydrates, you can be assured it will not raise your blood pressure. I hope this helps. If you can any more questions, let's talk offlist to keep things on topic here. -- >Thank you so much for your clarifications . Everything that I have >read about 5HTP sounds really exciting and I wanted to try it for both >really bad sleeping and I.B.A..
