I am finding that Arcade Zone is really good for motor skills for my youngest. And, believe it or not, it's also helping him learn about taking turns and not always winning; and even helping him with the idea that when you are trying to do something, it works better if you really try to concentrate and focus on it if you want to do your best.

My son is 5 and just got into the Wii. We're limiting his game time, but also thinking it might help with his motor skill delays. Also it might help him learn to lose without getting so upset. We have Wii Sports Resort and that's working well for him. Can anyone recommend some other Wii games that would be helpful for these issues (and age-appropriate)? Thanks,

Balance is supposed to trigger things in the brain that help with some

symptons of adhd, I forget it all but read it in driven to distraction

where they recommend things like balance boards (old fashioned, not

wii ones lol) so I wonder if the balance board would help. We just

got one and it really draws more attn to balance, center of gravity

and opens up more exercises. Of course that costs much more than a

game. I got ours on sale for $79 on amazon. I saw it on salke for

that but didn't get it, decided I wanted it so watched every day till

it went on sale again

OK so im gonna jump in here because when you said it teaches him to lose without getting upset , it made me remember something!! So my son who is also 5 , loves playing the WII , he would play the wii fitness plus , and before he even started to play the games on their , i noticed when i would play it , if i didnt get a good score , my wii character after losing a game would fall to the floor and start pounding it , orr the character would just droop her head down and swing her arms back and forth while this " waaah waaah waah" kinda sounding music played in the back round! I was like ooh wow , you would think someone would have caught on to that and maybe would have changed it because it doesnt teach being a gracious loser , it almost encouraged the opposite response! Soo my

son was playing WII downstairs and he lost , he actually wasnt upset at all , because he knew he could just play again , but because the wii character was drooping his arms and swaying back and forth like he was upset , my son started to do it! lol Annnd then , my son was eating breakfast one morning and he dropped some food on his lap , so he put his spoon down , stood up out of his chair , and with his head hung low , swayed back and forth like the wii character does in the games! He started doing that everytime he would mess up with anything!! Thank god , he has finally stopped doing it , and i know i shouldnt laugh , but when i saw him first do it at breakfast , i just about peed my pants i couldnt stop laughing!! lolIts kind of funny really , because its become a lil joke in my family between my 5 sisters , anytime we are all hanging out and someone does something stupid we will all do that arm swaying thing like the wii

characters ! lol Sorry , that was completely off topic , but i thought it would make you guys laugh a lil!! Meaghan :)From: W <jennywatson@...> Sent: Thu, January 20, 2011 9:36:08 PMSubject: ( ) Wii games that help with Aspergers

Thanks Debra. Amazon gave it so-so reviews, so I might go for Wii Carnival

instead. It sounds like the same kind of thing, but the reviews are better.

Thanks - we have a balance board and Wii fit - my husband uses them. What would

you recommend we do with it?

Meaghan,

My son just did a whole week without discipline marks - his first ever. He tells

me " I not making no noises, " but I suspect news of his diagnosis is starting to

spread. I hope lots of forehead slapping went on when they realized they have

been disciplining him for his disability for the past 6 months.

Anyway, for his good behavior he has been able to play the Wii every evening

this week. Now he sits at the table humming loudly and blurting out things from

the Wii like " Nice throw, " " good one, " etc. So glad I didn't buy the 'People

cursing loudly' game : )

Yeah my son did that too!! lol I also limited his time on the wii , because he was becoming obsessed with it a little to much! My son really loved the wii fit plus game , he would always play the "ryhtem kung fu" and the other game where you lean back and forth and are head butting soccer balls! He mostly liked watching me do the soccer ball one because he thinks its hilarious when i miss the soccer ball and hit the shoe that you are suppose to dodge! lol I love having the Wii!! he also was really good at bowling , i still cant beat the kid in that game!! lolMeaghanFrom: W <jennywatson@...> Sent: Fri, January 28, 2011 11:34:10 PMSubject: Re: ( ) Wii games that help with Aspergers

We got the Wii at christmas in 2009 and like most aspies, my son was hooked.

Even though my son (age 8 AS/ADHD) has fine and gross motor difficulties, I do

not see a difference in his motor abilities. However, I find that in playing

video games it has helped him socially. By playing , Zelda, etc . . . . he

has something he can fall back on when talking to boys his age. They come to him

when they have difficulty beating a level and they congratulate each other when

one beats a game or a hard enemy. It helps my son form a social connection and

gives him a sense of pride as well as a common interest that he can discuss with

kids his own age.
