I really can't answer your questions, but I wanted to encourage you to also place your question at the GAPShelp loop if you haven't already. I also wanted to mention that casien in the milk may be a problem in addition to the lactose. I don't know what is or isn't broken down by the enzymes in raw milk. I am very interested to hear with others say. There is the homemade 24 hour yogurt that rids the milk of most lactose. Don't think it does a thing for casien though. We adopted our youngest 2 and our first born was born at 26 weeks gestation and is still a teeny guy (40 lbs at 8 years old). We've been doing the GAPS diet for almost 4 weeks now. Before that, we were gluten free for a year, and saw some improvement, but not complete. I started investigating/changing our diet because: 1. I have thyroid autoimmune, weak immune system, and tend to catch everyone's cold, and just general weakness--before gf, I also had arthritis (starting at age 29!) and severe acid reflux. My dad has thyroid cancer and I don't want to go down the same path as him--he is unwilling to change his diet . 2. Isaac, my 8 year old, didn't grow well, even on a feeding tube with tons of high calorie formula being pumped into him every day. (I am wondering now if it was the disaccharides in the formula). He gained a pound a month when we first started gluten free--and then tapered off and didn't grow again....I am hopeful that GAPS will help him grow!! I feel a lot better since starting GAPS. Isaac is down a pound. I have family members who are worried that we have him on a low-carb diet and that he will lose weight. I'm wondering if anyone else has put an underweight child on this diet & how they did? Also, I'm wondering about raw milk--is it allowed, or not? If it's an issue of the lactose, I'm pretty sure it's broken down by enzymes in the raw milk, I think? I'm excited to learn more from all of you!
