Guest guest
When my son was in 3rd grade the school OT went into his class and introduced the Alert program to the entire class. It helps kids learn how to self regulate. It was mainly for my son but it helped all the kids. Here's a link. http://www.alertprogram.com/ Caroline > > Hello All, > > I have a six year old aspie. We recently transferred him from a Montessori environment to a public school environment. He has a hard time learning to self-regulate. He attends a social skills class but I don't think he is able to transfer what he learns there to the classroom. His issues are frustration and so he gets himself worked up and doesn't want to complete a lesson. What can I do at home to help him? I also think sometimes its hard for him to remember what to do. What have you tried? Thanks. >
Guest guest
My son does this all the time. He gets frustrated and shuts down. We have put in his IEP that assignments are broken down into smaller tasks and he is to be given visual concrete examples. This takes a lot of the guess work out of assignments and he gets less frustrated. Maybe you could ask for these accommodations. Also teach him how to ask for help before he gets frustrated. Just some quick thoughts. ne Sent from my Verizon Wireless Phone leds62 <leds62@...> wrote: >Hello All, > >I have a six year old aspie. Guest guest
Thank you ne, We have just moved into this school so we are just starting the IEP process. ly, I don't know at this point what to ask for in his IEP when we get down to it. I'm not used to the way the public school system is because our son had been in a private school system all is life until he got his diagnosis last year and then all kinds of behaviors came out. I'm starting to research now what I can ask for and what should help our son function better in the classroom. Thanks for your thoughts. Lil > > >Hello All, > > > >I have a six year old aspie. Guest guest
Has the school done a complete evaluation on him. Often based on that you can determine where his weaknesses are as well as strengths. Also I would recommend going to wrightslaw.com there is a lot of information there and to get the books " From Emotions to Advocacy " and " All about IEPs " Unfortunately you'll have to get smart on this quick so you can best advocate for you son. I don't mean to sound like doom and gloom but take it from most of us, the more knowledge you have about this stuff the whole lot better off you'll be. Good luck and don't hesitate to ask questions this group is great in giving good advice. Guest guest
We just completed this process as well. It was very difficult to navigate through. I found a group here on that was quite helpful it's called IEP_guide. Good luck. > > > > >Hello All, > > > > > >I have a six year old aspie.
