Guest guest
, I have a couple of questions. Are you in the US and is he going to public school? If so, does he have and IEP? If you are in the states in a public school and your son is not yet in special ed (IEP or Accomodations) then you need to request and evaluation in writing as soon as possible. If you already have an IEP set up than you can at any time request a meeting and ask for changes to be made to the IEP. You can request modifications for test taking and you can have a plan in place for when he has problems pop up. With an IEP in place there can be support given to the teacher by the special ed team. YOu could have for example a place for him to go when he is upset (like the special ed room). Guest guest
Hi , I'm gonna be quick on this one, cause I gotta get going, but Yes, my son has 1-1 test-taking accomodations ---- for Social Studies. You should request/require this in his IEP. If the IEP isn't for a while,,,,,,,see if the principal/spec ed teacher can call one together. They SHOULD do this for you. Also,,,,,you mentioned that the teacher brought up about how "he still 2nd guesses" everything....and that she still prompts, reminds and "directs" him. Well.....that's her job! If she brings it up again,,,,,or maybe you should in the IEP,,,,,tell her that. Nicely, of course. Our kids don't just "get prompted" for 3 months of school and are instantly "cured". Oftentimes, summer vacation has them right back at the beginning of "learning stuff" all over again, because of the break. Oh.....and Social Skills can be wonderful!!! Is there a chance he can get it with a group of kids? Like-minded kids? This would help, as well. I said, "Can be", because I remember Ian getting it for 20 minutes every Friday. What the heck does that do? Ugh.Now,,,,in 8th,,,they have it every day......with 5 other kids and an amazing teacher. After years of crap, we finally lucked out. ha ha. Speech therapy.....well,,,,I wouldnt' think that that is where you'd work on the "why's?". That's where the teacher and her redirecting, etc, comes in. Whether she likes it or not. This is something that he does. He's going to have to learn over time, that you don't/can't question the teacher on her every move or order. This can only be done with repetition. Good luck.
