Guest guest
I have a very bright 8th grader who refuses to show all of his work in algebra and his grade is suffering as a result. The teacher says he should be getting As b/c when called on in class he knows what to do; he just tries to take mental shortcuts during tests or forgets to take the %$#@@ problem to completion!! I'm beyond frustrated at this point but I feel that I can't let him fail, he'll be applying to high schools as we speak. What to do? Guest guest
Oh, I love algebra.....in our class there is a boy just like your son....but I keep after him and tell him not to take short cuts ....as it is too easy to make mistakes. It is hard but I am keeping at it with him. He also does so much better on tests if he does it on a white board rather than on the paper. I don't know why they have to show all their work....maybe it is so the teacher knows they didn't cheat? Try talking to him and working with him on the problems...do you know algebra? jan Janice Rushen "I will try to be open to all avenues of wisdom and hope" From: dweeny123@... <dweeny123@...>Subject: ( ) Re: School grades-math, arghh!!! Guest guest
I would suggest to your son that he write out the problem as if HE was the teacher, and his 'student' knew nothing about how to solve the algebraic problem unless he writes each step out for them. Good Luck to you. > > > From: dweeny123@... <dweeny123@...> > Subject: ( ) Re: School grades-math, arghh!!! > > Date: Thursday, October 8, 2009, 2:25 PM > > > > > > > I have a very bright 8th grader who refuses to show all of his work in algebra and his grade is suffering as a result.
