Guest guest
We had to do breathing treatments 3 times a day from @ 2-3 years old and it was hard! But we didn't use the mask, we used the mouthpiece (and sometimes we'd put plastic wrap around the tube that connected to the mouthpiece so the medicine would flow out and we'd just get the mist as close to his face as possible) and we'd watch a TV show or read a book while doing it. He really did okay all-in-all and since it was so frequent, he got used to it over time. Just takes a lot of patience. If there is someone else who can relieve you sometimes, it also helps your sanity. Guest guest
our 4 year old has AS and asthma. he likes to play his handheld leapster or nintendo DS while taking a breathing treatment. Or letting him watch a video on the laptop is a special treat for him. Good luck! Karla > > We had to do breathing treatments 3 times a day from @ 2-3 years old and it was > hard! Guest guest
Yes, I do. We always just set it up in front of the tv and let him watch a movie- we had to get short movies because of course he would want to finish it, but some of the books on video frmt eh library were the perfect length. I wuld always promise a reward after. It helped he had a dragon mask from the children's dept, so he thought he was a cool fire breathing dragon. He can not stand the mouth piece in his mouth. We also switched to Xopenex because he hated the way teh regular albuterol made him anxious lightheaded and jumpy- he woudl just shake all over and be really freaked out after the regular albuterol. If the breathing treatments don't work with the nebulizer, it could also be the sound of the machine- maybe you need a quieter one or ear plugs. I know that was a cause for concern for my son as well. Guest guest
We always used the mask as my son didn't like the using the piece that you hold in your mouth. When my son was younger while we were using the nebulizer we would read a book or simply rock in a chair. My son's asthma only gets bad when he has a cold so that was the only time we typically used the nebulizer. His asthma symptoms have really subsided with age. We still have the nebulizer but have rarely used it in the past few years. Caroline > > > Does any one have a child with AS and asthma and have to give them breathing treatments???
