Guest guest
Okay, so has been in speech therapy since she was 22 months old. She is now in 3rd grade. I am having difficulty trying to determine what is going on with her. She is fine with reading and comprehension. However, when she writes, she leaves words out of the sentence. They aren't complete sentences. And she doesn't see that the sentence doesn't make sense. She also has difficulty in conversational speech because she does the same thing. She has a really hard time trying to tell things. She uses the word, " like " a lot. Almost every other word. If she can't figure out what she wants to say, she'll say, " Never mind. " The speech therapist keeps saying it's her speech. But she's in 3rd-grade. She should be able to have word order in her conversational speech and written speech. She will use do instead of does. No matter how many times I correct her, she'll use do. For example, " Her father is old so she do not want her father to die. " That is an example of an answer given on a paper. Also, the answer to a question is this: " happy and Mulan's family do not want her to die. " Another example: " Axel climb were Grits was up with Axel. " Another, " Because Dag don't Axel to get hurt and Axel did it. " A lot of her sentences do no make sense because she leaves words out. She also answers Who, what, why, where questions with yes or no answers. Her IEP goals do address these issues, but I have not seen any improvement in a year. I am just wondering if there is another issue that may be causing the missing words and not reading the who, what, where, and why questions correctly and answering them with yes or no. They just finished testing the reading level and she tested above the level they needed to be at. So she is fine in reading and comprehension. Spelling is okay. She was tested on that as well, and only some vowel blends were scored low. But only one set. The rest were fine. I went in to speak to the teacher yesterday because I'm having to do math worksheets with her all the time because she doesn't understand what to do once she gets home. And even then, once we get the answers, if she were to do the exact same problems 5 min. later, I don't think she's gotten the concept to do them on her own. The teacher is going to place her in a math resource group. Which she had already determined. We discussed the possibility of an auditory processing issue, and she said that she would agree with me to a point. Because if she is having issues with directions, she would be behind in math because it's mainly directional. So, I just wanted some feedback on the missing words in conversational speech and written speech. I am confused because her reading and comprehension is above where it should be, and yet she has this conversational speech issue. We are in the process of getting stuff seen to and her tested, but waiting for new insurance cards to come so we can take her where she needs to go.
