Guest guest
One thing I have learned is never ever believe anyone but your child in situations involving school. I have been lied to more times than I know what to do with! A matter of fact I just finished calling out my sons science teacher last week and calling her a bold face liar in a cc'd email to the vice principal, my sons case manager, herself and the 'team'.. she obviously has not heard about the parents of children who are in need of help. This also was a bullying issue and she offered to move my sons seat to sit w/another child the same day (I was told this by my son). When I emailed the team and requested a meeting she lied and said she didnt now anything had happened and wouldve put a stop to it right them.. BULL!!! Shen then followed up and tried to put my son in a single desk where the rest of the students where laughing and teasing him while the bully sat w/the rest of the kids. I FLIPPED! Got everyone and thier mother involved and low and behold my sons case manager was off the wall about it also and removed him directly from the room and told him he would not be sitting in that seat. The bullying thing is a major pain because they will at all cost come up with "I cant help you I didnt see it happen".. after a few times of dealing with that the administration began hearing my last name and jumped into action. Dont stand for it and dont be afraid to call those teachers out!! It shouldnt be tolerated and it is their job to stop it. ( ) being bullied. Hello; In the beginning my son had an aide in school. On Friday Sept 11, he came home and told me that he was bullied in gym and his aide was no where to be found. I sent a letter to him and emailed the director of CSE. He is suppose to be with him at all times because of the bullying. The special ed teacher called and told me that the gym teacher and aide where in the gym but not according to my son, also if that was true, why would they let my son get bullied and come home with scratches on his arm, one which was really bad, I took pictures so that i could show them in the next meeting. Every five weeks where going to have a meeting and i will be bringing it up again. I've had a problem with the Special ed teacher before. I am getting so annoyed with the situation. Guest guest
I just gave up and put my son in a private school. I just figured I could fight, but while I was fighting the administration my son still got bullied everyday. I could win the battle, but at what cost to his self esteem, so I gave up. I found a small private school that is affordable and works with us very closely (no IEP) involved just normal day to day conversations. When he's having a particularly bad time and has to stay home, they are very understanding. I know that there are at least a couple of other kids in the school with issues. Guest guest
I have searched high and low for something like that around where I live but they dont exist.. not until high school. I agree it is at the cost of the child which bring me back to my point of make sure those teachers know who you are and what to expect when they are trying to pull a sly one on you! Dont back down... no one will stick up for your child like you do. And even when you think you may have been too harsh.. it is worth it because it is the emotional state of your son or daughter that counts in the end.. the teachers, the staff, the counselors they all need to just deal and do thier jobs. Period. Most understand where you are coming from but the ones who try to slide by with lies need to stood up to! ( ) being bullied. Hello; In the beginning my son had an aide in school. Guest guest
Hi, My son use to go to private school when I lived in queens I know live upstate and there are no private school for his level. Meaning he is to advanced in his academics. He is a very intelligent boy and he has a very high IQ. So they felt he would not do to well with the other students that are in the private school (IN UPSTATE NEW YORK). I have been thinking about relocating closer to his dad. But anyway, believe me I have fought with the teacher's back and forth. But when it comes to the school they are going to stick together I have learned this. I might have to go to a higher power. I will keep you posted on what happens Again thanks for the advice. Mena From: phrayottecomcast (DOT) net <phrayottecomcast (DOT) .net>Subject: Re: ( ) being bullied. Guest guest
I did that, and they told me that kids will be kids. Last year my son had a teacher's aide that actually called him Handicapped and when I called the the principle, and the aide they told me that, My son took it the wrong way, But its funny because after I had confronted the aide i found out that she no longer works at the school and as far as showing them, they didnt do anything about the scratches. They are trying to put the blame on my son because last year he disprespected his aide after she called him handicapped. So now they have a behaviour plan in action. I asked what happened to the aide and they told me tha shet decided to leave the school. YEah I wonder why. From: Filomena Napolitano <filomenanap>Subject: ( ) being bullied. Discuss it with the building principal or assistant principal, and if they won't listen, with one of the special ed directors at the school district main office. Hopefully, you won't have to go any higher than that. Good luck!
Guest guest
My son is having similar probs, he told me the same boy knocked him over in gym then tripped him up, the teacher that takes the class is the same one that has sat opposite me and told me the school is doing everything it should to keep Gregor safe. I e-mailed and said I was concerned about what had happened and how it is getting increasingly difficult to get Gregor to school because of things like this. The reply I got was very carefully worded, "the events that occurred did not happen as described by Gregor" what am I supposed to take from that? So events did occur, just her version is different from Gregor's? Well of course it is she wasn't on the receiving end. From: Filomena Napolitano <filomenanap@...>Subject: ( ) being bullied. Guest guest
Yes I agree 100%, I have fought with all i have. I will keep fighting, and it annoys me when the school says that OUR children need to learn how to have social skills. They wont sit and explain to the other children what is going on. Thank you so much for all your support. I'm really glad that I joined this group, its help a lot. Mena From: phrayottecomcast (DOT) net <phrayottecomcast (DOT) .net>Subject: Re: ( ) being bullied. Guest guest
I would not wait for the five week meeting if he is being physically hurt. I would request a meeting asap. Do not ask them if they saw anything or were there. Obviously they were not! I would just say, " Look at these pictures, my ds was bullied during PE and came home like this. " I would let them know that you expect the IEP to be followed and expect the aide to be with your ds as specified.  Roxanna " The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. Guest guest
That is terrible, I agree with Roxanna, don't wait, get right in to the school. My son was being tripped up and stuff in gym class, I took advice on here and e-mailed the school straight away ( I work full-time, so it can be difficult get time off or I would have been in the school) printed and kept a copy. Got a reply from the school the next day, problem solved, for now. Your son has a right to be safe at school, and it is their job to do that, speak up so they know if they don't get this sorted out you will keep on the case and take it further. If we don't do it for our kids no-one will. From: Roxanna <MadIdeas@...>Subject: Re: ( ) being bullied. Guest guest
Yes, I agree...straighten this out now...bullying in schools is not to be tolerated!!!!!!!!!! And, in our school the kids could be suspended for doing that! Of course, it would have to be seen by a teacher or witnessed by someone. Last year 4 girls bullied another girl and they were suspended for 9 days...and they missed the mid-term finals ...and one even had to take the course over. Stand up for you son....don't let this go on. I found out just reacently that this boy Danny picked on my son...made fun of him...teased him...etc. He held this in for several years as I just found out now...but now I see how this has really affected him...Needless to say ...he has low self-esteem...and the bullying and teasing...sure didn't help. So ...do it now...stop it before it gets worse. And his aide should not leave him alone in the gym...that is one place he can easily be teased.
